Here we take a look at the Modern British 20ltr Fuel Can & Water Can set release from Gecko Models in 1/35th scale.

Introduction

In recent years modern military vehicles and ARV’s have gained in prominence, figures from this period have also increased in number and so modellers are seeking out supporting offerings to provide a realistic setting for these models. Gecko Models is one of the companies tackling this requirement and have released a set of modern period water and fuel cans in 1/35th scale.

Review

This offering from Gecko Models is supplied in an end opening card carton with a flip top cardboard tray inside. The sprues, decals and photo etch are packed in two Ziploc bags. It is the quality of the packing that in my opinion is the first sign of quality as it shows thought has been applied. The sprues have one of each offering on them with ten sprues supplied.

There is a minimal amount of clean-up of the mouldings required but the gates are a little larger than I expected to find. The moulded detail is of a very high standard, the fuel cans have some extremely small detail added moulded in place with the handle and filler cap as additional parts; and this is topped off with photo etched seams and decals.

The water cans have detail that I wish I could highlight better but my camera cannot show that very fine recessed moulded on detail in all of its glory, the detail here is truly stunning in its detail. I suspect many are thinking “so what it’s just a water canister”. In the belief that this set will be sort out by many for adding those little visual touches that everyone appreciates it is this level of detail that will catch your attention.

Conclusion

This offering from Gecko Models is a perfect example of the quality that can now be managed with injection moulding. The moulded lettering detail is perfection in my opinion that will be next to impossible to better. As this is one of those sets that many modellers will want to have on hand as need I would have liked the number of units provided to be higher, but I don’t know how much that would have affected cost.
