Review
This offering from MMP Books looking at the WW2 Zugkraftwagen Half-Track Tractors of World War 2 is a soft backed book authored by Robert Peczkowski and Slawomir Zajackowski. The cover is a robust glossy card that displays the book well and offers a reasonable level of protection. There are 94 pages of a high quality paper with a semi gloss finish; again this shows the contents at its best. The text uses a font style and size that makes it an easy read.
The contents of this title cover:
Sd.Kfz. 6 Mittlerer Zugkraftwagen 5t
Sd.Kfz. 7 Germany’s 8 ton Medium Half-Track
Sd.Kfz. 8 Germany’s Medium-Heavy Half-Track
Sd.Kfz. 9 Germany’s Heavy Half-Track Prime Mover
Sd.Kfz. 10 Leichter Zugkraftwagen 1t
Sd.Kfz. 11 Leichter Zugkraftwagen 3t
The text in the book falls under three main categories and begins with history of how the vehicle design came about and its progression into different types as requirement demanded. The main text also look at the differing roles the vehicle types performed from simple tractor units, specialised tractor units, heavy weapon Anti-Armour platforms and Armoured vehicles.
There are a decent number of good to high quality photographs in the title that are also accompanied by well written captions. These photographs are enhanced by the inclusion of artist produced full colour side profiles of many vehicles in many of their roles. The artist profiles are also accompanied by well written captions that really lift the title in my estimations.
The second part of the text covers the various vehicles across each line and provides a small amount of information restricted by the amount of pages in the title. I am not going to criticise the title for this limitation as I am looking at the title as a modeller and not someone who wants the vehicle types full history, so if you are looking for a title that covers all of the ins and outs then this title will not meet all of your needs.
As you get towards the end of the offering you will find some photographs that will help to Identify the vehicle in photographs you come across online and alo some line drawings that show the difference in size across the family. At the very end of the title is a lot of Polish script that I believe is a translation of the main sections of the book, but that is a guess on my part.
