The Early Type British 4 Gallon Tin was titles the P O W can meaning Petrol, oil and water but quickly gained the name of flimsy due to the high attrition rate and loss of contents. depending on source it is estimated that anywhere between 30 -60% of the contents was lost before getting to where it was needed. The adoption of the German fuel containers which acquired the name Jerry can has stuck to this day and proved a far superior design in every way.

The flimsy only really served in the early years of the war and I believe had all but disappeared before the end of conflict in North Africa. it is worth remembering that British troops used these as cookers by cutting the in half and filling one half with petrol soaked sand and the other half inverted on top with water in it.
