Originally intended for the Panther II, it was ultimately decided that the schmalturm would be mated with the standard hull of the Panther Ausf G. 

A couple of prototypes were made and a schmalturm, albeit badly damaged by post war gunnery training on the ranges, survives at Bovington Tank Museum.
