Vortex shakers are not new, and in fact I have been using one for a few years. But now Gaahleri has added some interesting details to their Voortex that makes it even better.
The shaker comes in a nice medium sized box, including the shaker itself, the power adaptor and the instruction booklet.
The Voortex has no battery, so it has to be constantly plugged in -using a usb-C connector. On the good side, you are not going to run off battery in the middle of a session.
The only control is a large round button, and you get feedback from a light bar on the left side.
A long press on the button switches the Voortex on and off. A single press cycles through the three available speeds. Honestly, I see no reason to use anything than the faster. The light on the side changes according to speed from pink (slower) to green (medium) to blue (faster).
Rotating the wheel clockwise adds time to the timer, and detracts when rotated counterclockwise. There are 12 steps of 15 seconds each. When you set any time, the unit starts automatically.
Using it is as simple as putting the bottle on the base, lowering the cap, selecting speed and time. Once the time is set, the rubber base starts rotating and the light bar shrinks according to time elapsed.
This is very convenient as it can work unattended, I can leave the paint for 2 minutes while setting up my workbench, then change to another bottle of paint and continue working. There is no need to strap bottles or keep a hand on top, nor keeping an eye on a timer. Just select the time and it will stop when done.
It accepts bottles from 17ml to 125ml. The cap is not removable so large bottles can not be used. On the other hand, it can use bottles with either flat or pointed caps.
Conclusion
I was already a fan of vortex shakers, but the Gaahleri Voortex has immediately replaced my old unit. The timer and cap are very useful features.
The Voortex works flawlessly and performs its job quickly and efficiently.
