The vehicle body was based on a civilian light truck, and the Army Medical Corps independently developed the rear compartment. It incorporated a lot of medical equipment, including bench seats that could be transformed into bunk beds. The theaters where it was engaged in missions were wide-ranging, including France, North Africa, Italy, and Europe after Normandy, and it was seen not only in operation by the army but also at air bases around the country.
