Introduction:
Modern concrete road panels are widely used to build parking lots, driveways, roads and other infrastructure. This is a very easy and fast method of creating temporary heavy-duty surface.
Eureka XXL offers several concrete road panel sets in 1/35 scale which can be used for dioramas of modern urban areas, military bases, airfields and training grounds. This review covers the Modern Concrete Road Panels (Perforated) (E-018).
Review:
The set comes in a small but sturdy hard cardboard box. The box art shows the contents of the set and lists the dimensions of the individual slab (28,5 x 21,4 mm) as well as the surface which can be covered using the 20 pieces supplied (120,8 cm2). This information can be crucial when planning the layout of a diorama.
Opening the box reveals 20 pieces, cast in grayish plaster, secured with a layer of bubble wrap. The cast is really good and the perforations well defined. The material is brittle but can withstand quite a lot of manhandling.
The pieces depict perforated concrete plates commonly used for laying the driveways or parking lots. I have seen similar panels in different shapes and sizes throughout Europe, but for some reason the panels in Eureka set remind me of Eastern Europe and Russia.
I wasn’t able to find any info on the dimensions of the real panel so I can’t comment on the sizing, but comparing the photo references with Eureka offerings, I must say the 1/35 scale pieces look the part.
Altogether, Modern Concrete Road Panels (Perforated) from Eureka XXL provide a valuable resource for building 1/35 scale vignettes and dioramas. With 20 panel pieces cast in plaster, the set offers a great value for money.
