It was widely used in the regions of the Far North, Siberia and the Far East in geological exploration, construction, oil production, forestry maintenance, as well as in the army and border troops.
Developed by the design department of the Gorky Automobile Plant on the basis of the GT-S (GAZ-47) tracked transporter. It was produced from 1968 to 1985 at the Zavolzhsky plant of tracked tractors.
