This is a review by Randy L Harvey of the book, Hitler's Terror Weapons from V1 to Vimana from Pen and Sword Books by author Geoffrey Brooks.

HISTORY:

** This is the story of the terror weapons developed by Hitler and Nazi Germany that were intended to be unleashed with devastating effect on the rest of the world.  The book charts the development of the V rockets and their successes against allied targets.  It then goes on to look at the even more sinister deadly weapons that Hitler was planning and developing, but fortunately did not succeed in producing.  Hitler’s Terror Weapons tells of the desperate efforts of the Nazis to produce war-winning weapons, and the measures taken by the Allies at the high levels to frustrate them in their aim. **

THE TEXT:

Author Geoffrey Brooks provides a well written and informative text detailing various German “Terror Weapons” as title of the book states.  The text goes into great detail in all areas of the book, as outlined on the contents page, and all subjects are well discussed down to the smallest detail.  Please refer to the contents listing for the areas that are covered through the book. Some of the areas covered are who designed the weapon and what it’s projected use was and what the expected outcome of the weapon should be as well as the materials used to construct the weapon.  Each of the weapons detailed are discussed from design and development to actual use as well as which weapons never made it any father than the drawing board.  An area I found particularly interesting was the discussion of why Hitler was hesitant to use a weapon such as the V4 “Doomsday Bomb” due to what the aftermath could be from its use.  In addition to his own words, Geoffrey Brooks has provided numerous personal accounts, witness statements, quotes from key individuals as well as excerpts from professional reports detailing and discussing the various weapons.  The text in the book is nicely written and well detailed. As I read through the text, I didn’t notice any spelling or grammatical errors. Grammar and spelling might not be an important factor to everyone however it is something that I take notice of and pass on my findings.  I feel that if the text is well written then it shows that the author has taken the time to be professional with their writing.  Anyone wanting to add an excellent reference and history book on Hitler’s terror weapons to their personal library will be pleased with this informative and interesting book.  I also feel that the scale modeler will find this title to be interesting as the text along, with the illustrations, will prove to be a valuable resource for scratch-building scale representations of some of the various weapons.
