A large scale 3D sculpt & print figure of a Wehrmacht radio operator mid to late war.

As a fan boy of Airborne-Miniatures, I brought this figure as soon as it was announced, and I was not disappointed. Airborne-Miniatures.com are reliable for good figures of interesting subjects, even if this is a(nother) German soldier.

The figure arrived in a sturdy cardboard box with the figure components wrapped in bubble wrap; the breakdown is conventional in nature with the torso and head, left arm and hand, right arm and hand with rifle tucked under the elbow, legs with boots as a single piece, the radio, separate aerial, sling for the rifle, canteen, helmet, rifle muzzle, and breadbag.

An interesting feature is the torso and legs are hollow, with the legs being hollow all the way to the heal. And, all cabling is cast in-situ, see images.

The radio is a gem of accuracy and simplicity, the aerial fitting in to its socket perfectly, and the cables fitting in perfectly also.

A dry fit of the arms found a perfect fit of the right arm, the left arm was tight, but the hand matches the headphones exactly. The torso sits on the legs and the figure stands up without support. A well balanced figure if ever I saw one. The radio sits on the back of the figure with a small ledge as a guide for where to fit it. The canteen and breadbag have small plugs to fit to. The helmet fits to the front belt by way of a strap.

The uniform is standard mid to late war, the gaiters being the give-away, but there is no Funk badge to show this guy's service, that will come down to the yellow of the epaulettes. There are no instructions included, but assembly is straight forward and you can find uniform references on the web.

And, in an email conversation with Maciej of Airborne-Miniatures, I made a comment about a mine sweeper figure, to which he replied the box of the radio is the same. I'll leave that with you.

The striations on the legs are a trick of the light, I expect they'll disappear under primer and paint.

You can seen the 3D sculpt here, and the only bit of damage, the chip in the strap of the canteen.
