LifeColor have released two basic paint sets and we have a quick look at what is on offer thanks to Airbrushes.com.

Review

These two releases from LIFECOLOR offers offers the modeller a total of sixteen paint colours overall in 22m pots which are plastic instead of glass and so less likely to break when you add a ball bearing to aid paint mixing. There has been a change since I last looked at a LIFECOLOR offering in that the sometimes hard to get into and easily damaged flip top carton has gone and it is now a card tray that slides out of a card sleeve. I feel this is an improvement when it comes to making it easier for the modeller to access just what they are after. I also like that the colours in the carton are also in the same order as listed on the carton front.

These two sets being basic paint sets are not aimed at any specific task but are instead intended the complement products already available. In order to aid that on the rear of the box is a guide to mixing the paint for use in both an airbrush and with a paint brush. Also on the rear LIFECOLOR touches on colour theory which depending on your ability may help your painting progression. 22m of paint is supplied of each colour and they are available to replace individual colours from good stockists such as the Airbrush Company that supplied these samples.

The paints provided in these two offers are:

Volume 1

LC 41 Matt Flash 2

LC 04 Matt Dark Yellow

LC 06 Matt Red

LC 28 MATT Violet

LC 08 Matt Pale Blue

LC 11 Matt Light Green

LC 18 Matt Light Grey

LC 37 Matt Burnt Umber

Volume 2

LC  05 Matt Orange

LC 16 Matt Sienna

LC 34 Matt Royal Blue

LC 40 Matt Dragon Green

LC 03 Matt Yellow

LC 21 Matt Flesh

LC 15 Matt Tan

LC 17 Matt Brown

I myself feel these two colour set offerings are a good base offering for the modeller looking for a range they are comfortable using. The colours provided all look to have rich pigmentation to them and the carrier and pigment does not separate quickly, both of these traits are plus points in my book. Looking at the two offerings as a whole my opinion is that many of them will be of use heavily thinned and used to add tonal changes to base colours as well as perfectly good to use as they are. Looking at them on the The Airbrush Company LTD website the sets are only £2.20 more than the six paint set offerings despite providing eight colours and so a good buy at present.
