Review

This offering from ICM is provided in the usual packaging of a flip top cardboard box with a separate card lid and technically consists of 3 models. The half track is a model that has been knocking about for some time. However, once built it is a pleasing model, this release can trace its origins to 2010 when a straightforward truck version was made and there has then been various alterations made with the last truck only offering being the kit you are offered here minus the crew. The kit itself is holding up extremely well, with clean moulding and other than some very fine flow marks, which have not affected the finish. While this kit builds up very nicely, I have always found the half track portion of the build to be a tense aspect as it is quite fragile in design, and you can easily damage or knock off other parts as you progress. This is not a fault of the model, as it does accurately replicate the vehicle and is down to fat fingers and shaky hands. 

The cab meets expectations with regards to the contents and details. However, you will need to look for ejector pin marks most specifically on the roof of the cab. Decals are provided for instruments inside the cab and so other  than ideally getting the personal touch it is good. The mechanical aspects are something that ICM has a reputation for including and this kit is no different with a decent engine and gearbox offered. those who like to further the detail will of course add the wire and cable detail that is not included for a potentially stunning result; especially as there are a number of sets available to show work being carried out if desired.

The gun at the rear is a fairly new release, and should meet expectations however I would liked to have seen the 4 gun version of this released with the kit; if I am honest I expect that will show up soon. Some ammo boxes are included, but with the rate of fire from even a single barrel it would get through what is provided here in no time.  The gun could be quickly enhanced via the addition of photo etch. 

The crew for this weapon mounted on a vehicle would usually consist of 5. However, the weapons system was perfectly capable of working with a crew of 3 or 4. The crew figures features one using the ranging scope, a second having been looking through binoculars, the gunner himself and the other would be the loader, but he is not exactly animated when the figure with the binoculars is indicating incoming. The uniform is a later war offering, although the pockets on the uniform are from an early war period, this is identifiable as the war progressed the uniform details were simplified in order to use less material. The Jackboots that everybody associates with German troops were gone and brown shoes and putties became the order of the day. A simple black leather belt is included, along with an item that is referred to as a bread bag. The headwear is a standard forage cap with a peak, uniform insignia is present as mouldings on the various locations, but I myself would consider removing it or using it as a guide for placing decals. I do wish that model providers would start including decals for figures. However, the hand and face detail is good and there are no obvious issues in that regard.
