This offering from ICM is one of those kits that you just have to buy but why? Well you are supplied with three identical sprues covering the cookers and I am informed that is the correct number of cookers in the field. One of the beauties of getting three is that all of the other support elements are also duplicated at least three times. Looking at the moulding quality I am pleased with what I see, but there are some very small and fine elements that could easily break during removal and clean up. Looking over the cooker elements I cannot see any obvious issues detail wise and so should meet most expectations.
The four figures in the set are all nicely detailed and performing a role that is correct for the setting; from prepping, fuelling, cooking and carrying the figures are all occupied as they should be. I am sure that many expect me to complain about the guy in the chef’s hat and I will be honest and say I am in two minds. During WW2 American field kitchens tended to be in prepared areas a long way from the front according to information I have read. And American troops at the front did not get hot food unless it was prepared by themselves. British troops were at least to be supplied with one hot meal a day and US troops near British units tended to be looked after even if our grub was not to their expectations. So the chef’s hat is one of the details that I would say seldom happened and never say never.
