Tin Advertising Signs from Plus Model

Review of the most recent Plus Model Tin Advertising Signs, German and French.

Plus Model has recently released two sets of Tin Advertising Signs from the 30's and 40's, that were used at that time on shops and building fronts. One of the sets has German brands while the other is for French ones. Some are well known brands, even for today, and follow the colourful style of the period.

These sets are made of photoetch brass of medium thickness, with a colour layer on top, and have assorted shapes according to the original sign. The size varies also, between 1cm and 2cm long/wide, and the printing quality is excellent, with vivid colours and enough resolution.

Signs are very easily removed from the fret, I used scissors but a blade will be equally effective. The printing was not damaged or peeled off.

The instructions recommend to rub the back of the sign against a soft surface with an steel ball to give it the domed shape they usually had. It takes a couple of tries to get the shape right, so it sits even on the four corners. This is the sign I have used for a test, and how it looks after bent.

The front, coloured,  side is not affected by water or Odorless Thinner for oils, so they can be weathered  with any modelling product if desired. Being brass, it could be even crushed  to add it to a pile of rubble.

I added some rust on the edges with Vallejo Acrylic paint and it stick fairly well, it should be equally easy to add stains or dust with enamels or oils. Here is the result.

I have attached it to the front wall of a MiniArt house. It can be fixed with any glue for photoetch, that is, CA, acrylic resins, etc-

Comparing the house with and without the sign, it adds a nice touch of colour that changes a lot despite its size

Conclusion

These are very  nice sets of signs, well done and easy to use. They accept weathering and will add a colourful and original touch to any scene with buildings.
