The model is made by the Snake Model in1:72 scale. I liked and wanted it immediately when it appeared in their offer, so I purchased it together with some other kits.
The SPK-12G crawler crane was designed and developed in 1963 at the Lviv repair plant in Ukraine on the chassis of the T-54 medium tank. Two prototypes of the machine were manufactured between 1965 and 1966.
On September 21, 1967, the Soviet Army adopted the SPK-12G crane, which was designed to disassemble and assemble cargo weighing up to 12 tons during field repairs of armored vehicles. The maximum boom reach reached 6.5 meters.
The kit is very detailed and made of the manufacturer's usual excellent quality gray resin, in addition, some parts arephoto-etched. The transparent parts are diecutted out of a thin transparent plastic sheet. There were no particular problems during assembly, the parts fit very well.
The building instructions include a drawing of the positions of hydraulic hoses, which is a great help, since it is quite difficult to find photos and information in Internet about this vehicle.
The kit was built OOB I only made the cables from copper wire, and replaced the wooden log with a bamboo skewer cutted to size.
I painted the model with the usual "Russian green" acrylic paints.
After enamel pinwash I highlighted and weathered the vehicle with oil paints.
I first applied the paint stains with a sponge dipped in lighter paint and wiped dry, then painted the insides of the larger spots with Chipping color. After that, I applied the additional dirt and rust imitation with Ammo Shader and oil paints.
The base is a product from Polish White Stork Miniatures, which I supplemented with Model Scene's photo-etched nettles and Balaton Modell's photo-etched wild grapes and resin barrel.
