My younger brother Gino will be along shortly...MLRS is his domain......

Though I must admit, it looks kind of goofy. The launcher is unprotected.... strange setup

Rounds Complete!!

I have never seen a US M270 with slat armor. I'm sure the Brit kit could be fitted to a US MLRS though.

I still have some contacts within Lockheed Martin Missile Division from back when I did ATACMS I and II models for them. I'll find out Monday if the US uses it, It does seem strange for the Brits to put slat on a weapon system like that, but I know they've been fooling aroung with it since at least 2009.

The slat "" LOOKS LIKE "" Lockheed-Martin Up-Armour Kit, I'd be inclined to start looking there.
I can't answer IF it was used operationally, as my B-I-L was M109's in Op Granby, (GW1 that is!)

According to THIS dated OCT 2008 the slat armour is an A'stan upgrade & is used there, eg post OP-Tellic.

LOTS of SLAT goodness hereMilitaryphotos

Scroll down to the M270 G/MLRS deployed with slat
& the pic below? M270 MARV, a mate is working on these conversions.....

Yep the video worked, thanks man.

Yes Heavy I'm with you on the fact that the kit will fit the US version but if I build it, would it be called a what if project?

I'm going to wate to see what "18Bravo" comes up with as well.

"jon_a_its" Militaryphotos is a forum I have gone to mini times for the stunning photos.

The Brits are looking at replacing slat armour with a mesh armour to reduce weight.

If I remember right, it was almost like a fabric. It'll sure give the automotive components on these vehilces a break.

The Boxer MRAV resin kit:
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/review/3716
It looks like the French VBCI Boxer. Maybe the resin company renamed it.

Another copyright issue ? Just kidding In fact, the Boxer MRAV project was originally started as a joint venture between Germany, Britain and France, but France left the programme in 1999, later to pursue their own design, the VBCI. There are several 8x8 APCs on the market. that look similar. (8x8 APCs pics ) Polish Rosomaks in Afghanistan are fitted with the "RPG Net" too :

The MaxxPro MRAP will receive it soon :

On a side note Heller should release a 1/35th scale VBCI kit next September...

Hi Darren

Thanks for the info. In fact what I had in mind was the induced weight gain

This armour reminds me of the bed spring armour on Russian T34s and a side benefit will be it will be easier to reproduce the effect with PE.

If its anything I saw on the M-ATV at APG last week...PE isn't the way you want to do it. its actually a narrow nylon (most likely Kevlar rope) type rope with metal "buttons" or box like structures making up the mesh.

WWII styled armor making a comeback.

Photo and Model by Ken Burke.

It looks as if the US never use the slat armor on there MLRS units, so I'll be building the UK version. All I need now is a photo of the GMLRS with out the slat armor. There are some armor upgrads the cab, that I need to see more clearly.
