Our new chat system is actually a VOIP (Voice Over IP) server which is running TeamSpeak 3. Unlike things like Skpe and Google Hangouts, Teamspeak is a very simple to access system more like the old days of text chat rooms. When you login to TeamSpeak you will be in a lobby area. You can move from that area into different rooms. Some will be for scale modelers, some for online gaming. You can even create your own temporary room and invite your friends to join you. To try it out simply install the TeamSpeak 3 software on your PC, add the URL or our TeamSpeak server and with headphones and a webcam or other microphone you are ready to VOIP chat. Detailed instructions are below.
To get started you will need only a few things. First your computer would need some kind of microphone. This can be either a built in or external webcam mic, or a headset with a mic built in. It is also recommended that you use headphones or a headset while using TeamSpeak as it will greatly reduce the chance of other users hearing their own echo if you use your speakers.
