Hi Guys,

With a view to guilting myself into getting this finished, i thought i'd post up some shots of my Cromwell Cougar MRAP EOD vehicle.

I started this ages ago (2009 I think) and well never got around to finishing it. I was building 2 actually, one for MMI magazine, one for myself.

I had no problem getting them from Cromwell (no, Gordon didnt pay me to say that!)... and guys please I dont want this thread to degenerate into a flame fest about their service!

So, here are the model shots so far.

I modified the interior - i found some shots online of someone's EOD version of the Cougar, and copied their build. It looks like the crew/dismount seats were removed from the APC version and replaced them with cabinets and a big bench arrangement, i guess for holding the EOD robot, bomb suits etc.

Radios and BFT screen were added from Pro Art models - im sure their mounts arent right, but i wanted something to be seen through the tiny windows

And moving to the outside:
The turret that comes with the kit is very basic, so I replaced it with a Legends GPK turret, which was challenging to get right.. note I havent put the glass in yet, its a NIGHTMARE!

The bent over antenna bases also come from Pro Art

Stowage from MIG - this will eventually be held on by Pro Arts Ratchet straps

Nothing is glued on at this stage, hence the wonky alignment of some parts.

Cant speak highly enough of the kit itself, great detail, little or no flash, and everything fits pretty well together, better than a lot of other resin kits i've built previously.

Hopefully I'll get some more work done this weekend and post some more shots up.

Cheers

Sam

Great looking kit.. and a very nice build.

It's a very interesting looking vehicle. I wish one of the plastic manufacturers would take the plunge and do an affordable one in styrene!

Very neat build, it's going to look beautiful with some paint and weathering.

If I may offer one suggestion on working with the OGPK, if you bend and form 3 sides of the PE frames for the glass, leaving the top end open, you can place it on the turret, prime paint and finish, then drop the glass panel into the frame and fold down the top of the frame. Of course I only discovered it when I was all finished...

Thanks Lucas - ive been looking for a way of effectively building the window panes - ive primed them with Tamiya grey primer - and have put them aside while i scratch my head further.

I may give your idea a go.

Cheers!

Nice clean build so far!

I'm not sure about the American versions, but the Canadian ones seem to sit a little higher.

Look at the space between the wheels and the fenders.

Also looks like there is too much rubber and not enough rim on the wheel assemblies.

Yeah apart from very minor, nit picking detail issues, Cromwell have produced a great looking item.

Your additions of stowage and change of turret compliment it nicely. A great looking build so far.

I am looking forward to seeing more as you continue your work.

Well done mate.

Keith.

I spent last year crewing a Cougar (Cat 1, not the JERRV you have) in Afghanistan, I would love to build one but with the price and the fact they are damn near unobtanium I doubt I'll ever get the chance. Good job on the build though.

Thats a great looking kit!!! I've been looking for something to build besides the Stryker line...

The front shield around the 50 cal...why does it look upside down? The windows are on the bottom?

As Sam mentions in his first sentence, it is made by Cromwell. Search 'cromwell', you'll get lots of info!

It is so the gunner can see to his front, from behind the protection of the turret armor. Previous gun shields and their lack of visability forward forced gunners to ride "high" in the turret to see over the shield or look through the slot for the MG. This exposed the gunner to sniper fire and the effects of IED,s and negated the protection of the turret.

Oh, yea, nice clean build. I will keep tuned for the final finished product.

HTH

Hi Sergio,

I have nothing but good news. Cromwell have always delivered my orders OK, well maybe sometimes a little slowly, but I always received what I ordered.

Thanks

Hey Sergio

I actually have to go with Sam on this one. I've never had any problems with Cromwell, and like he says they may take a while to get to you, but they've always arrived and in good condition. You can order from Gordon directly via:

gordon brown-cromwellmodels- [email protected]

Just remember... His stuff is made after he receives an order, he's going to charge you up front and you're probably not going to see your order for atleast 6 months minimum. After ~5-6 months, if you haven't received your order, email him... don't be worried if you don't get a response... but send him a "kind reminder" about your order every month there after until you get it, and when you do get it send him a note saying you got it.

Stay patient, have faith, and keep emailing him and it'll come, and hopefully you won't be disappointed.

Let's hope the trolls don't see this thread and start chiming in and turn your build thread into a s*&t storm.

Where's Rick with "got in before the lock down!"

Awesome build Sam! Love it! Keep it up!

Perhaps it was mine you saw, perhaps not, but at any rate, yours is very close. I'd say since it's buttoned up you probably won't even care about the differences.
You may want to add the viewscreen for the gyro-cam, as it would be visible through the turret opening, It's in the foreground in this first pic:

The robots were too large to store in the bins. I actually photographed the load SOP that was taped to the wall but I can't read it. I'm just doing mine based on what I saw in one vehicle.
Yeah, I know there's an AFV Club kit out now of the Talon (I have one) but I like my scratchbuilt one. There were two styles of track used, mine represents the other style not on the kit.

Can't wait to see your finished.

Hi Robert - yep it was yours! I couldnt remember if it was yours, or Brian Murdoch's but your photos jogged my memory. Thanks for posting them again.

Im at a bit of a quandary with mine, I want the turret from the new Bronco FRAG 5 Humvee, but I dont want to purchase a whole kit just to get the turret. The Legends turret isnt that great, i'd rather use a plastic one, and Bronco kits are always fantastic. i've emailed them, but no reply as of yet

Anyway, thanks again for posting!

Sam
