Inspired by the Vietnam War Patrol Boat River - PBR crew on the movie Apocalypse Now, Paracel Miniatures released a 3D print kit including interesting posed 5 figures and some bonus parts. It is mainly produced for Tamiya PBR 31Mk.II Patrol Boat River "Pibber" but figures can be used in different scenes like basecamp dioramas, short break scenes for soldiers taking off boots to rest their feet or fishing.
Kit comes in a 10x15x5 cm.rectangular cardboard box labeled with an illustration of the 3D figures. Inside the box, figures and bonus parts are seperately inserted into transparent ziplock bags.
Resin quality is good and printing is great with no mistakes or weak parts. There is no need for a serious cleanwork maybe a few residue of supporters.
All figures are in 1/35 scale, printed in resin and come as one piece figures, no body parts assembly is needed.
Facial details and expressions, body postures and proportions, uniform details especially flakvests, cloth folds, wrinkles, weapons and accessories are all well defined.
Figure #1
Posed to sit on a Mermite food container, putting his smoking hand on a fuel drum; he looks like a well experienced tough guy or if these should be named as movie characters he can be considered as Chief Petty Officer Phillips with his alikeness to the character. He wears jungle trousers with cargo pockets, jungle jacket with shoulder ripped off sleeves, left pull beret , necklace, towel on his neck and bare feet.
Fuel drum, mermite food container, boots with socks inserted inside the right one, radio, camera, Ithaca shotgun and M79 grenade launcher are given seperately.
Figure #2
Sitting on a Mermite food container, holding his M16 rifle with right hand and a pipe on his left hand; he shows alikeness to Chef Hicks of Apocalypse Now with his beard or a fancy soldier with a wide headband, sunglasses and bracelets on his right wrist. He wears jungle trousers and M69 flak vest on his bare chest, bare feet with half pulled off sock on the left foot.
Mermite food container, boots, rifle and gunstrap are given as seperate parts.
Figure #3
He seems like a young soldier missing his family or girlfriend writing a letter with paper on his left hand and a pen on his right. His appearance looks a little like Lance Johnson of the film. He is posed to sit on deck leaning on wall and his feet on the backside railing of PBR. He only wears jungle trousers with bare chest and bare feet and carries a dogtag on neck.
Ithaca shotgun, boots, .50 caliber ammo box and helmet with a cigarette box attached on left side are supplied with this figure.
Figure #4
Standing on a fishing pose, he looks like an Afro-american soldier and the youngest member of the crew. He shows an good alikeness to Mr.Clean Miller of the boat crew on the movie. He wears left pull beret on his head, t-shirt with upfolded sleeves, jungle trousers and boots. He has a fishing rod on right hand and a fish on his left . Rod is given as a seperate part and I needed to widen the hole on the hand to add it.
A bucket is supplied with this figure. Note that a stretched sprue or very thin wire will make a good fishing line between fish and top of rod.
Figure #5
Posed standing to hold a bow on his left hand and taking an arrow from the quiver with his right hand, he wears a head band under his helmet, M69 flakvest, jungle trousers cut off under cargo pockets and sandals.
Mitch helmet with a cigarette box on the left is a seperate part.
Bonus parts
A surf board, a crocodile and a monkey are supplied inside the kit as bonus parts.
Highly recommended
This is an interesting and useful kit for Vietnam War modelers who will built a Patrol boat river and as mentioned before it can be used for many different scenes.
Nice poses, high quality print, no need for a cleanwork, ease on assembly with less parts as the figures are all one piece, nice accessories and rare bonus parts.
Thanks to Paracel Miniatures for the review sample.
