ICM release their 1/35th scale Kamaz-4310 in service with the Ukrainian Military.

Review

ICM has released a Kamaz-4310 in use with the Ukrainian Army quickly on the tail of the Zil-131. The model is packed in the usual robust way which does a good job of protecting the model but all being in one bag does run a risk of warping. Checking over the sprues leaves me feeling positive as while some of the gates are on the large size and these are low in number; it’s the cost of reducing the number of connection points as I understand it. I would have liked to see a driver included with this one as with the last but that was not to be.

Looking over the model reminds me of what a good job ICM do of the mechanical aspects of a vehicle. The chassis on this one is a multi-part affair and will require a level of care to get the parts correctly orientated. The model only really needs the modeler to add electrical wire and pipe to end up with an extremely highly detailed result. The cab interior is as you would expect and the engine is very nice when you consider that ICM do not use photo etch in their kits as a rule.

The container on the release is a common feature with the electrical power for the air conditioner/filter being a well detailed element. I do wish that ICM had looked into providing interior detail for this aspect as I really feel it would greatly increase the appeal of this model and others previously released. The cab looks ok to me to be accurate when compared to online images with the doors being closely looked at in this case as it is an area usually commented on. Something that is a bone of contention are the tyres which are vinyl rubber in this release. I know this is popular with some and hated by others but I feel the tyres are very nicely detailed and resin after market options are an alternative.

A nice aspect on the finishing front is that ICM has provided digital camouflage decals with the release. These could be used as intended or I like the idea of using them as masks, but to each their own. The standard decals are good being reasonably thin and also included dial detail for the cab instruments.
