The RAF were the sole user of this multipurpose variant, which, unlike the Army’s versions, actually had a higher carrying capacity - rated at 2 tons. In accord with the nomenclature used by the RAF, this truck was referred to as a “tender”.
Production continued through to the stage where “hip rings” were introduced in all British soft skin trucks, unlike the 30 cwt Army variant whose production had ceased before this innovation was introduced.
It’s multipurpose use dictated that the tilt frame could be easily removed and stored on the front and side of the body. This was a feature which according to Gecko research, was not seen on the Army variants. It also had higher body sides and a different locker arrangement.
