Gecko Models has really come to the attention of fans when it comes to replicating aspects of the Vietnam War. One of the latest offerings covering a 1960’s – 70’s Saigon Fruit and Vegetable Market Stall Set is a great release for the diorama display modeller. This offering covers a stall location that is permanent in nature but what is sold there could be changed and so future releases of the base product and different figures and sale items could follow.

A look over the mouldings and what this set offers impressed me greatly as there is a lot to see here. The base of the product and structure is simple in design but has items that I did not expect. In this case it’s the fact that the location has power and both strip lights and cooling fans are included in the release; the fan blades being provided in photo etch. The fruit and vegetables offered are an aspect that I am unsure of due to the contents looking to be more worldwide offerings than region specific delicacies. One other thing I have observed from online images is that fruit and vegetables do not appear to be sold together and instead the seller concentrating on one or the other. I look forward to members on this subject as it may be a more modern aspect of life in Vietnam.

Also provided here is the person selling the goods and in this case is a woman. Clothing is suitable for the period and in general the look is good, I like that the woven hat is included as an option for the figure to wear. A pedal cycle is also included with this product and I really like that photo etch has been provided to represent the spokes, but more impressive is that Gecko Models has included a former so that the dome effect can be more easily obtained. All told this is a very impressive release.
