Danish BPZ II Leopard ARV

  • move
As a part of the Danish Leopard 2 QRF Squadron serving in Afghanistan at the moment is this Bergepanzer II. The Danish Army bought 14 Leopard ARV from the Dutch Army in 1994 and for more than a decade they served in Leopard I squadrons. After the change to Leopard 2 tanks a modernisation program is planned and so far two Bergepanzers have been upgrade to the Wincent model. When the Leopard 2 was deployed in Afghanistan however, there was no Wincent available (and it was still a new vehicle with no trained operators) so a stop gap solution had to be found. 64 111 was therefore equipped with a new shield arrangement with a .50 cal heavy machine gun put on top of the commanders hatch, tool boxes from the Leopard 1 added to the sides, new (and very rudely homemade) skirts and finally repainted.

The model was painted with Tamiya paint. I have done almost nothing to show wear and tare, as the tank was a literally new paint. I therefore concentrated on high lights and washes. It has been given some sprays of dust with heavily thinned shades of tan. Finally I gave it some MIG pigments.
