Depends on what you consider a reasonable price. The Rye Field M1A1 1991 (ODS) kit (RM-5006) is about the best out of the box.

Great review here.

Another good choice would be Dragons M1A1 AIM kit # 3535.
There are plenty of reviews of these two kits to help your decision.

Not for Operation Desert Storm; '90-'91. M1A1 AIM is a late '90s/early 2000s rebuilt Abrams. It is has too many newer features for ODS.

The RFM ones are very nice, but expensive if that makes a difference. I've got the M1A1/A2 w/full interior, but haven't even thought about starting it yet. I guess they go for around $70ish.

Desert Storm era Abrams would either be the straight M1A1 or the first M1A1 heavy common tanks. Dragon's original #3516/3517 kits fit the bill but are long outdated as Abrams kits with RFM kits around.

The plus side is that they are fairly cheap.

Dragon's AIM #3535 would be too late a tank for Desert Storm. The AIM program started in 1998 and first fielded in 2000.

You can backdate the Dragon AIM to an M1A1HA but you would be limited to units of 1st AD. Just leave off all of the AIM addons. GPS, rear phone APU etc. For 1st Cav the RYE 1991 kit is the best bet.

the tracks will be the wrong ones in Dragon's M1A1 AIM kit for desert storm
they didnt used the big block tracks then you will need the rubber chevron tracks that is in some of tamiya's M1A1 or M1 kits

The M1A1HA was shipped with T-158 track . T-158 track was available for all M1A1s since the late 80's. It did require a sprocket change to install on tanks that previously had the T-156 (chevron track). It was more common in the mid 90s to see that done.

The Dragon AIM kit although had a lot of retooled parts it also suffered from model maker laziness. There are a lot of parts from previous kits making the backdate possible. The AIM kit comes with 2 sets of track the T-158LL rubber track and a set of Majik Tracks. The Majik Tracks are T-158, use them.

I have built a few of the M1A1 AIM kits and none came with T-158LL tracks. As far as I know, the DS T158LL track was only in the M1A2 SEP kit.

We used T158 tracks in 1990 in Germany. I don't know about stateside, but it's not like we went back to the old style tracks when we deployed.
