Hi, which kit to use if I want to build Tiger S01 of Herbert Zimmermann during Kursk?
Thanks.

Well, the first question is, are you sure that this Tiger was present at Kursk? It's the same Tiger that Herzig sank into a river in February. Had to go back to Germany for repairs. I suppose it would be fixed up and returned in time for Kursk, but that should be verified.

There's also the possibility that he used some other Tiger for some reason.

Anyway, to answer your question; nobody makes a suitable kit. With more than 80 scale models of the Tiger 1 available from more than 20 manufacturers, and new kits still being released, nobody has ever released a kit for that specific version of Tiger.

What's different about it? Well, as you probably know, it's a Befehlstiger. It has a few little doodads attached that make it slightly different to a standard Tiger. Very few kits contain these parts. But that's not the problem.

The real problems begin on its sides. It has the 2nd type of side skirts which no kit has ever supplied.

Moving from there to the roof, we find that S01 had no S-mine system. As a result, the tow cables and other tools were in different places than most kits supply. The only kit with the correct roof layout is Rye Field's 5003.

So your best bet is to start with 5003, take the skirts and side panels from a compatible "Africa Tiger" kit and modify them, and somehow obtain the Befehlstiger parts also, plus a couple of other modifications (for example, S01 had no exhaust covers). I'll help out if you're serious about this project.

5003 comes with an interior, but it's not a Befehlstiger interior, so save it for a later build.
