slow progress with small PE. Just the fuel can racks on the rear door then repair all the additional armour supports (before 25 VERY small handles need to be done)....

Next round of building done. Major PE added (and add-on supports repaired). Don;t know if I will do the handles - there are about 25 of them and they are all 2mm long and need 4 folds each... Will be painting the new parts and then see how my eyesight is doing.

all gone shiny (and yet again, armour supports break off - the sooner I can get that lot all fixed properly the better)....

Well I'm getting there. There was too much space between the gun mounting brackets and the gun for my comfort. The gun kept falling into the chassis during my test fits so I inserted a longer rod in there to keep it in place.

I think it worked out well. As an added bonus I can even elevate the barrel now.

Now my last big task is to paint the ladders and the rails (the portion of them that didn't pop off and get themselves lost).

All right, I have it all done. The kit was a bit brittle for my taste but we got there and I am happy enough with it to keep it around.

A little more progress on my waffentrager. The tracks are made of individual links and two small pins Pr. Link. I assume Trumpeter wanted it to end up being working track links, but I could not make it work. In the end I ended up glueing the individual links together and adding the pins afterwards.

For me this seems to be a overly complicated way to make the tracks - at least for me it was no building pleasure. Also the result is not more detailed than having the pins moulded on the individual track links.

More to follow later 🙂

Hi Robert,

a very impressive paint scheme! Good luck with the next steps, I am curious about the final result.

Hi David,

It is a nicely built model, surely. You plan to do some weathering, don't you? Would add lot of extra interest to such a huge subject!

Hi Jesper,

this vehicle looks to me like a moon-crawler with those pins on the outer side. :-D
I had similar experience with the aftermarket Workable Tracks on the STRV-103 kit, made by Trumpeter. Could not figure out how to make them really working. Finally wasted the track into the bin and simply used the original vinyl tracks instead.
Three years later I had a second attempt with T-xx tracks (also Trumpeter) and for my best surprise I could manage it. Probably I was more patient than the first time.

All in all, not the most successful engineering by Trumpeter guys.

Thanks for the insights, Tamas. You are probably right that it could work if all links are very carefully cleaned and pins inserted very carefully. I am actually building another waffentrager for another campaign. I am going to be very patient on 10-15 links and see if it works. Then I can evaluate if my patience is enough for 120ish links for each track run

In the meantime I have finished the main sub assemblies for this kit. I am going for a mixed camo. Dark grey gun barrel, red primer hull, camouflaged turret, and dark yellow gun mount.
Something build by several sub contractors and quickly put together before being sent to the front.

Hi Jasper,

I might missed the first post from your recent build but I wonder if that HUGE metal barrel is part of the kit or an aftermarket item?
I also replace the plastic ones with metal/resin barrels but this one looks something extreme.

Thanks for the comment, Tamas. The barrel is part of the kit. It is an aluminum barrel with a brass tube and some PE rings. Quite impressive and good value for money.

The overall fit of the kit is excellent. Just don’t expect the tracks to be working tracks. No way that is going to happen.

Hi Jesper,

The only reason I like tracks working is when the fender is molded together with the hull and cannot build up the single-link tracks using my preferred method. Any other case I do not mind if non-working as my models will be static anyway.

I am looking for your next progress pics, it is a very interesting subject and impressive build so far.

That Vigilante is shaping up very nicely! I Hope to have a update on the Chally 2 in about a week. Its been on the self of doom because my custom grey paint was to dark..... I will have to repaint all the grey before i can start decals and weathering. As of right now the turret is remasked and Im working on the hull. As i said I might have made some progress in a week but school may interfere so dont hold your breath.

Well, not much going on here since my last post..
At least I'm nearing the finish line, putting on the last decals (of the few) and the missiles and drop tanks.

P.S. Don't know why the picture is so small, had some problems to upload it, too. I hope this bug will be taken care of soon.
