Gino, you know you can use the ‘Hide user’ function? It’s at the top of every post. I only found out about it recently but it can make for a less stressful life if you find a particular individual’s posts irritating.

First of all "AEROSCALE" is not a "sub-set" of ARMORAMA, or vice-versa, nor was my post a "sub-category"...

If anything, I DID manage to raise YOUR hackles, didn't I?...

Ok, so sub-set was a poor word choice, I should have said sister site, it is equally as popular and a stand-alone entity.

Yes, your nonsense posts with unnecessary capitalization and rambling usually do "raise my hackles" (whatever they are). I find most of them quite annoying. That is exactly why I usually ignore them, as I will with the rest of this one.

Well that's just so wonderful of you to say about me, ESPECIALLY after my always complimentary comments for your wonderful work here on ARMORAMA. It's people like YOU that make everyone's day just a little bit better!

Thank You SOOO Much!!!

VR, Dennis

BTW- "Hackles" are the the plumage found on the backs of the necks of male birds, such as roosters. Roosters are birds who tend to be quite unnecessarily noisy...

If you dont like it dont read it !

Really, you are going to resort to the response of someone who has no argument?

If you want to find out about the latest airplane model, that is why there is a whole sub-set of Armorama, Aeroscale, that is dedicated to them with all sorts of sub-catagories and lots of useful info. If we are going to post like this, why have sub-categories at all, just post whatever you want wherever you want.

First of all "AEROSCALE" is not a "sub-set" of ARMORAMA, or vice-versa, nor was my post a "sub-category". It was "/news", period. Did you not read my heading,

"NEWS For Tread-Heads Who Also Build Wing-Things"..?

Sometimes, Gino, "Tread-Heads" who DO build "Wing-Things" get so wrapped up in their Panthers, Shermans and Tigers, that they don't even stop to "peremptorily" peruse "AEROSCALE" in order to find out what's new, and vice-versa.

If anything, I DID manage to raise YOUR hackles, didn't I? And I also DID get a few people to "talk"...

THAT was my object, in the first place- To raise interest AND CONTROVERSY, and possibly even infuse a lit bit of humor. Darren mentioned that he wanted to raise readers' consciousness and to improve their "response-times and activity" on ARMORAMA, in so many words. I DID get some immediate responses, with YOURS among them...

You'll have to admit, it's been pretty "dry" around here, so why not throw everyone a "curve-ball", if only to get people talking, and yes, arguing one point or another, even if it's only to bring up the question,

WHY are "Wing-Things" being discussed on a "Tread-Head" site..?

Now, you have your answer...

keep posting Dennis !

Actually Dennis might have a point here.

I could post links to Windows updates (for tank modellers who also own a computer), to food news (for modellers who also eat) and to the IRS (for modellers who also pay US taxes - other tax authorities are available). After all, they might not have taken the trouble to sign up for those sites but I’d be doing them a favour by telling them about them, wouldn’t I?

Why is this discussion even here? We have the Aeroscale Forums for a reason. Are we now going to start announcing every aircraft new release here as well? I really don't see the point of cross-pollinating to the Armor forum. If people are interested in aircraft, they will look there too. If they don't, that is their problem.

I must second this opinion stated above. This belongs on our sister-site, not here.

And on another less related note: - as these P-38 teaser posts were coming up of late I was sort of hoping for a new Lightening in 1/32nd that would at least come close to all my 1/35th scale armor models and my other 1/32nd aircraft. This announcement sort of leaves me cold for multiple reasons.

Sorry Dennis

Hi, Mike!

Quite alright, Mike! "To each, their own", as the saying goes. The positive commentary in this thread quite offsets the negative. I don't much care what people think of me or what I say. Neither do I care if they dislike my way of expressing myself with caps and emoticons. We have these things at our disposal for a REASON, and that REASON is that they are all meant to be USED AS WE SEE FIT!!!

Thanks anyway for your input, Mike! Any commentary posted by anyone here is appreciated by yours truly, and as I've mentioned several times already, I've achieved my purpose in "creating a little bit of buzz"...

You've said, in another fashion, what I've been trying to convey in this thread all along. Let's all be a little bit more "open-minded"...

I really cannot understand why this post has caused so much drama. We are all one community with our own area of expertise or preference, and as was mentioned earlier, we often put the blinkers on and miss out on developments or news in the other genres. The occasional heads-up when there is something as significant as this new P-38 from Tamiya can do no harm at all.

For myself, I was a dedicated Wingy-Thingy builder for many years, but found myself burned out a bit and turned to Auto builds to renew my energies. In saying that, I still browse through a lot of the Aeroscale, Armorama and Model Shipwrights threads to enjoy the work being done and pick up some tips or techniques from the great talents here.

Shameless plug from me as well, you all need to build a car, so come on over to Automodeler and get your shiny on!

Cheers, D

Hi, Robert!

Doll Houses! You know, I've always wanted to "try my hand" at that... The only "after-market" is buying furniture to outfit the doll house, with! No stress, no pressure to get it done in time for a closing date on a campaign, no one niggling or pecking at you over your work... No wonder some guys just give up and go fishing...

I'm curious..... So, the "point" or "reason" of developing the cell-phone and texting capabilities there-on was fundamentally to provide people with better access to real-time communication (without, of course, any spoken or intended judgment as to what that commo would be, nor with whom)...

What do YOU think about those who willfully endanger others on our roads by texting while driving? Is it "each to his own" and "Hey! I can use the provided technology / gizmo / symbols any way I want - That's what they were put here for!"?

Granted, over-use and purposeful "because I (physically) can!" miss-use (just my personal perspective on that issue, of course!) of provided emoticons and cap-keying doesn't likely actually endanger anyone, unlike how some use their available cell-phones while driving, but it IS a breach of etiquette and does NOT help much in establishing useful communication among users - the REASON those things are provided!

There could be a somewhat larger connection here, beyond this specific thread concerning posting some (actually interesting!) planes posted on an armor-centric site... Some have posted concerning the apparent "dryness" of "things around here".

Personally, I am, of late, become a bit more reticent to bother posting some of my ARMOR-related questions on this armor site, because many of the discussions seem to degenerate into other conversations and lose the POINT (Hah! Emoticon and CAPS time! ) of my questions and queries and build ideas! And, while these changed and deviated discussions are actually lots of fun, I'm getting older and have ever less TIME for reading and contributing to these things!

Modelers are like other people (surprise, surprise!). We have here a site which grew and focused on a shared interest - it's utility to most of the users is based on it's being focused on certain subjects within the larger milieu of plastic modeling. When it becomes more-inclusive and it's original focus fades and gets lost, the users will start to move away from it... It will (as people have observed) become less popular and perhaps sparser and less interesting. Just a thought, folks!

Cheers! Bob

Thank You, Damian!

I visit AUTOMODELER and some of ARMORAMA's "other sister-sites" regularly. I've been posting on AEROSCALE, as well. Just because I haven't posted on some of the other sites, it doesn't mean I can't visit there. I find the atmospheres quite genial on all of them except for, well, ARMORAMA...

Why IS that, I wonder...

I knew I'd be sticking my head in a beehive by posting here about (Dare I say it?) P-38s and P-51s, but Darren wanted to see some more "activity" around this cemetery, so I went ahead and posted, anyway. If I had posted about P-47s or Classic Packards or Duesenbergs, I could have written A BOOK!!!

Thanks, Again!

Hi, Bob!

VERY WELL put! I fully understand what you're saying. When I mentioned my use of "caps" and "emoticons", "emojis", if you will, I meant my use of "caps" and "emojis" here SPECIFICALLY on ARMORAMA and, but not quite as much over on AEROSCALE, because people on AEROSCALE and the other sites, don't seem to take things as personal affronts as they do here.

Personally speaking, I never use my cellphone while I'm driving. I'm too FUMBLE-FINGERED with those tiny buttons on my cellphone!!!

Seriously now, I think that using one's cellphone while driving should be more strictly enforced than it already is here in New York State, ESPECIALLY WHEN TEXTING. TEXTING while DRIVING is not only DANGEROUS, but it can be LETHAL...

Even when I'm at home, I text as little as possible. It's too impersonal. Very much like what goes on HERE. There is no emotional involvement aside of the use of a few "emojis" here and there, and there is this ever-present "aura" if you will, of hostility around here. Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more evident by the day. By no emotional involvement, I mean that there can be no detection of an emotional fibre or an inflection in the voice, the expression on the face or the look in the eyes, whether that takes the form of a genuine smile or the sigh of resignation.

Instead, when there is the slightest deviation from the "norm" around here,

"PANTHERS and TIGERS and BUNNIES, Oh MY!!!",

"WATCH OUT, 'STICKS and STONES' are GONNA FLY!!!"

"Dryness around here" this Summer? More like EFFING DEAD!!!

Hello Again, Robert!

Yes, I took you seriously when you mentioned Doll Houses!

And I was serious when I mentioned that I would like to "try my hand" at it, too. Different set of skills, in a lot of different ways, and I'm sure that there isn't as much discord in that hobby, either!

Have a good night!

Just my two cents (again)— as far as I know, Kitmaker (as the name implies) is really a cratftsman’s website. There really shouldn’t be a problem cross-referencing “craftsman’s topics” here on occasion. How boring and what a loss if we all just fell into our “one niche”, and never looked to see what other craftsmen are doing. A good example— I don’t fish anymore, but I frequently check my local fly fishing shop to see what innovations I can use in my WWI biplane rigging (and yes, I’ve found many). And occasionally, I stop by the “doll house section” of my local craft store to see what I might be able to use in an Armor themed diorama (and I once found I could use dollhouse flooring to simulate 1/32 scale aircraft carrier decking). I frequent both Armorama and Aeroscale (and the other Kitmaker sites too) for topics that apply to my model building skills in general. So there’s really nothing wrong from a craftsman’s standpoint in starting this thread here— it’s even appropriately titled for that. It probably shouldn’t become a habit, but I doubt there’s any danger of that. By the way, did you know model shipbuilders use waxed lines to simulate cables? —Has applicability to many armor models!!

Isn't it enough to just select "Entire Network" and "None" at the top of the home page to then see the complete KitMaker network?

Which is what I have always done from the start.

Michael, true enough, I agree, and that’s what I do too. But, I also often miss “Features” or “What’s New” in one section which may not show up in the “latest posts” section because the title didn’t “grab” me (not that any of this applies in this particular posting). Or the posting was missed due to time passing. And I do find it a little aggravating (but it’s minor) to find multiple posts (or announcements) on the same subject in multiple categories (that’s kind of the case here). But on the same account, I think it’s fair for someone who may model in two or more categories to want to share something they learned with others who “may” be like minded. And in this case, the title kind of says it all— Armor guys who also build Wingy things. Certainly there’s enough “bandwidth” on Armorama for a “hey—you guys— look what’s happening over here” sort of thing. I just wouldn’t make a habit of it.

Hello Again, "Modelers Of All Stripes And Colors"!!!

If ANY of you are at all interested in TAMIYA's new and upcoming 1/48 P-38F/G Lightning kits, MEGAHOBBY is taking "pre-orders" on them @ $68.00 apiece. This price does NOT include shipping.

ETA is purported to be November, 2019...

Think I'll hold off on "pre-ordering" at MEGAHOBBY, at least until I find out what their "competition" will be asking for these kits...

To touch on a sub-topic that Russ just mentioned above: "topics that didn't catch my eye", I have lobbied elsewhere on this site in favor of recommending thread titles that actually try and reflect the topic to be discussed.

Given the sheer amount of data that flows across this site in a week's time, titles such as "What I found this weekend" do no one any service in affectively sharing modeling information here.

Equally, IMHO, creating duplicate multiple listings of Wingy Thingy announcements under the Treadhead monicker only increases the background noise level making it harder to find the real news hidden in the buzz of all the static.

Gents,

As an obscure Irish modeler said, "If'n a topic don't interest ye, pass on bye for fook's sake."

(Gotta stop binging "Derry Girls").

No one is forcing anyone here to read a post that clearly is about aircraft. If it's not appropriate, there are editors to move it. But many of us build both things that crawl on the ground and fly in the air, so I clicked on it, yes I did.
