My next build is going to be the Tamiya 1/35 scale Sturmtiger. Can anyone advise on the correct interior colours? thanks

This is the Sturmtiger at the Deutches Panzer Museum. But the interior is typical German "Panzer Interior White" (not sure what the RM name for it is--probably something like cream white) but it's an off-white with just a touch of tan. Testor's made an excellent match for it in their Model Master line called "Panzer Interior White. Here's a pretty good rundown on the interior of this Sturmtiger, and an explanation of why there are Sherman air cleaners in it (the engine has been replaced to keep it running):

Since there are only two or three surviving examples, I don't know if anyone knows with 100% certainty what the exact color scheme on the interior was, but I've read some reports that it was believed to be the cream-white color over the red primer like the Panzer museum shows here. When I painted mine, I used red primer on the hull, covered with Panzer white on the interior sides and floor, with a highly worn floor plate. Even though the Deutche Panzer Museum Sturmtiger has been repainted, I think they tried to be true to the original. Frankly, if you are building the Tamiya Sturmtiger, and you use the mortar rounds in their racks, not a lot of the interior is visible, even if you leave the large top plate off--especially towards the front of the driver and radio operators position. But enough is visible that you'll need to get some basic color on it. I'd also recommend Eduards PE set, which has the shackles for the mortar rounds, and some basic components for the top of the breech.

The correct interior color for all German WWII armored vehicles is RAL1001, Elfenbein.

Yes!! I agree, that's it, the actual name escaped me at the moment-- the Model Master color matches almost exactly, but I'm sure there are others. Somewhere though, I did read a report that stated the lower hull was the typical red primer (the area around the torsion bars).
