wow!
i really can’t believe is 1:72....

i too use background dirt for my terrain, but i let it its real colour, may i ask you why do you prime it? nature is not the best way to mock nature?
sorry for the basic question....
ciao
edo

Thanks Edo, no need to apologize for asking a question. Yes, I agree with what you said, nature is indeed the best way to mock nature. That’s the reason why I used it. I needed to be able to mimic loose dirt around the tank. I wanted texture which cannot be replicated by using Styrofoam or DAS modelling clay. I applied primer on the ground work because it consists of mixed materials: Styrofoam, DAS, rocks and pebbles. I wanted to unify the base color of the mixed media. Sort of like why we prime our models. The primer also serves as a pre-shade. I will eventually be painting the ground work with earth colors and since DAS is white, I’m afraid I’ll miss a spot or two and it will stand out. Which would be okay if I was working on a diorama with snow winter setting. With a black primer, any area I miss will look like it is shadow. Hope this helps.

This is beautiful, great job so far!

Joe I must add that besides all the detail you've applied in such a small scale (which so many of us strive for in 1/35th!) being perfect, the action of a heavy heavy piece of weaponry sliding into the oops! factor of battleground oblivion is stunning dude!

Looking frwd to how you paint this and complete the base.

Cheers

I have started painting the white camouflage patterns. I used Panzer Aces, "Stencil", added Vallejo's Paint Retarder and then used Windsor and Newton 000 brush to paint the patterns. This was a slow process for me. It took me two hours to get this far.

And this is how far I got after another two hours.

There are some brush marks that are showing but I think that's how it went with the real one. This pattern is too fancy to be masked off and sprayed. If not, it's artistic license for me.

Camouflage is done.

Here's how it looks dry fitted to the base.

Was able to take pictures last night. I used Vallejo's textured paste. I think it worked out pretty well. The dark spot in the middle is part of my initial painting, when I sprayed the based with Tamiya paint. I painted over it with the Vallejo paint but didn't bother to cover that area since the tank will be there.

I also experimented with some shrubbery, I will add some more later. The out cropping were also painted using Vallejo paints.

Here are pictures with the tank in place.

Here's the photo of the real one for comparison. Not to shabby, I think.

Thanks!

No Sir, not too shabby at all. Outstanding, actually!🍺🍺🍺
The groundwork looks good even w/o the T-62 — looks naturally eroded.

Great job Edo, in fact positively shab-less – a new English word created especially for your dio. My standard suggestion would be some powdered pastel chalk brushed over it in desert shades, but whatever hard to believe it’s 1/72, love it

Thanks for the comments. I have installed the DShk. I may add some figures later but for now, I'll consider this done.

Like Time said, hard to believe this is braille scale!
Great idea and great execution all around.
I also give kudos for getting one of my pet peeves correct,IE,placement of "random" rocks. You actually DID place them randomly and not evenly spaced out like most humans reflexably do.
