Hello everyone!
Gaz the idea of Stalingrad I like. Count me in.
I have a question: The fighting on the Don River between September 1942 and February 1943 would have answered the subject. Or should we only focus on the Stalingrad region?
I want to make a model of the Italian or Romanian Army.

Kalin,
The Italians and Romanians were an important part of the Stalingrad story. Please feel free to include them.

Salutations all.

May I suggest a book about the 24th Panzer Div. in Stalingrad. Pretty detailed day-to-day story. I did a Tamiya 251 halftrack a bunch of years back that got me interested in the division and later getting the book. I want to do a Pz IIIJ in 24 Pz Div markings but kits for that version seem a bit scarce and just as expensive for me.

https://books.google.com/books/about/Death_of_the_Leaping_Horseman.html?id=HKXyAwAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=kp_read_button#v=onepage&q&f=false

Cheers

Hi Rob,
Thank you for the suggestion.

Have you tried finding the Tamiya J?

Hi Gazza,

Yep, as much as I like the boot-to-butt one, it obviously won‘t show up clearly at that size. The medals are a good idea, or maybe a German road sign during the battle, like the one on this site (after being trimmed):

http://talesofclosecombat.blogspot.com/2013/09/battle-of-stalingrad-i-have-finally.html

Kalin, building a vehicle from one of the other Axis powers is a great idea!

Robbie, thanks for the reference - I might have to pick that one up. As far as another Panzer III kit goes, the one from Tamiya is a Ausf. L, not J:

https://www.scalemates.com/kits/103419-tamiya-35215-panzerkampfwagen-iii-ausf-l-sd-kfz-141-1

I‘m not sure whether this version was used at Stalingrad by the 24th PD, but maybe you could backdate it to a J.

Weren't all J's renamed L's at some point?

Something more like this?

Russian Cyrillic wall sign (with Bullet holes you probably can't see)

A simple Vs

Just a couple of more serious ones for comment. Will need some work to fit kb restrictions

Thanks, Gaz, I stand corrected - I went home and looked it up, and it says black-on-white in the Panzer Tracts book on the later models of the III that Auf. J to L was merely a designation change. I was thinking of the Ausf. M, which came later than the L, logically enough.

Peter, thanks for the signs, they both look cool!

Just signed up for this one. Really looking forward to it. This weekend I bought the Cyberhobby 15cm Sturm-Infanteriegeschutz 33 auf Pz III with German 6th Army Stalingrad 1942/43 at Scale Model World in Telford so will build that I guess. Should be a nice easy build.

I like the look of both the ribbon options.

cheers

Hi John A,

Good choice - looks like we‘ll both be doing 24th PD vehicles.

I like the banner with ol‘ Adolf getting his butt kicked, too.

Jerry

Thanks Jerry

I'm sure there were a few such signs dotted around when the Germans got there. I got the idea from this

Change of plans. Instead of the Sturm-Infanteriegeschütz 33B, which a few guys are doing, I'll do something else for a bit a variety - a Bronco Marder 2 Ausf D...

Yes Gaz, a Bronco again...

I’ll represent the opposition with something Russian. Possibly an already started T-34 with interior, or something else fresh.

Happy Modeling,

Oh goodie, another Target

I expect a few more will roll in with you and Mark once the campaign starts Zon. The only Russkie kits I have are too late to be in Stalingrad.
