I posted above but never got an answer - did the IDF use a different gunner's sight? The one on these M60's looks different than the standard US one. If so, when was it introduced?

I'm no Magach expert, but the Magach 6 Bet 'Gal' used the Israeli 'Gal' fire control system (introduced in 1989), the 6 Bet 'Baz' the 'Baz' fire control system (I guess the same FCS is used on the Merkava Mk.III 'Baz'). The 6 Mem was equipped with the 'Nachal Oz' fire control system (the same as on the Merkava M.II).

My only question is WHY?? Surely the IDF could have modified them or something?????

Keep on using old tanks for something different?
If the armour and overall design doesn't meet current requirements they can't be used as tanks.
Chassis for other purposes? Maybe but things get worn out and it complicates the logistics chain. maybe they did reuse some of the chassis for heavy APCs or something but I am fairly certain that those reuses couldn't consume all the available chassis.
