The tow rope lashings - what other choices did you consider to represent the lashing?


Perhaps a bit off topic, but I think the ends of kinetic tow ropes are wowen together and not tied using lashes? Can't seem to find the photo at the moment...

yes they are but I am not going to try and unwind a portion and weave it back together, sorry.

I could hide it with a sleeve, perhaps next time...

I know, that would be mission impossible. In fact, I like your lashings better than just gluing the ends together as I did on my Scorpion... although not completely accurate, it looks better.

Gloss coat added to the base but it will need one more to make it look good.



Waiting for copies of the AMF(L) and LG Beret badge to be made into decals and the info plate.

I really like the gloss, Keith. It brings the "stable belt" colors out.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the other final display elements come together. I think the planned badge and insignia decals will be very striking once added.

Almost done.

Drivers wiper blades added, snow and ice added to the inside of the tracks and wheels.. Judges look for that sort of missing detail.

A bit more snow and slush added but also the name plate and two test badge images (just for looks).




The two badges, the AMF and Life Guard Beret badge.

The images will be cleaned up and sharpened and then made into decals (transfers), then placed on a backing before adding them to the base. That will then even them up with the height of the name plate.

Very nice, I like the colour scheme and the way you've presented it. This has given me the idea that for my next CRV(T) build I'd love to have a go at that dozer-equipped Scimitar in Arctic colours.

Wish I could see this one in person, but there is a big lump of water in the way

Thank's for all the comments and it could not have been done without the backdated hull from Terry Beale (Castoff) a fellow Ex Life Guard.

I have very fond memories of grinding across the snowy wastes (fields) of Norway and through the towns and villages in both Scorpion and Scimitar and before that a Ferret scout car.

The locals in all areas made us very welcome.
We also surprised many of the unbelievers as to the ability of the CVR(T) to move swiftly from point to point and well within the proposed time window.

I will now move on to a Scimitar model (I think) or maybe a Saladin or Saracen.

The final pictures will be added when the badges are finished and in place.

Hi Keith,

One of your comrades is short a nice tankers quilted lined jacket!. We moved into a position they had just vacated on exercise and there waiting to be liberated was a fine winter jacket. Had to hump it around for a while but it came in very handy in the cold snows of Germany when we were mechanised.

I can remember the bushes and layout of the position but can't for the life of me remember where it was, but it was a beautiful late summer day and I remember thinking as they drove off in a cloud of smoke that maybe being in the infantry wasn't such a good idea after all

Good idea Jeff, perhaps I can use the ends of Q Tips or paper balloon shapes !

Nah, maybe not, I think I'll leave it as is.

I do have the final laminated badges in my mitts thanks to you Jeff so Friday I will put them in place.

The loser of the jacket would have had to do some fast talking and a bit of grovelling if he was to escape paying for it plus being cold to boot!

The only two items I would have come back for would have been a personal weapon and the boiling vessel (BV).

Hi Keith,

Soldiers get 'forgetful' towards end ex when they are tired and weary. I remember coming back to Munster from an exercise and checking the bus after everyone had gone only to find some prat had left a GPMG under one of the seats.

I took it back to my bunk and kept it for a few hours to allow the panic to rise and then casually enquired with the CQMS if he was missing anything lol.

The final pictures show the new set of resized and laminated badges, along with enough to add to later projects.

I really enjoyed getting a first hand look at the completed build yesterday at our "Armor Model Geek Day 2014" event.

I think the regimental colors and badges add a lot to the overall display, and the entire work is very attractive. Your decision to change to the smaller base was a good one, the size of the display is well proportioned to the subject.

I'm looking forward to your project.

Thank you Mike and coming from a 'Master' modeller that is very encouraging... Perhaps I will finish the Castoff Scimitar with slats now or tackle one of my new items from Accurate Armour.
