So last night I was digging around online to find a Opel Blitz engine update for the Tamiya kit and found this tasty kit:

http://www.halifaxmodellersworld.co.uk/plu313-opel-blitz-engine-set-for-tamiya-kit-4326-p.asp

The problem is that it's being sold from the UK and I'm in the US... the shipping is nearly as much as the kit cost! I found it on a Japanese web site too, but again, shipping nearly as much as the kit cost.

Are there any good web sites that sell kits like this (and/or this one in particular) based in the US?

Thanks!

I cannot comment on good locations within the US to use but I will say that Dave and Darren at Halifax Modellers World are a great at what they do and have had things in my grubby hands within 24 hours of ordering them.

Plus Model has a web shop (shipping is 30 % of the item price) :

Maybe worth considering

If You order overseas, I would suggest buying a larger amount of items, this way the shipping cost is not such a large problem. And avoid large plastic kits.I often use use Luckymodel, they have free airmail on many items, last time I paid no shipping at all.

Henri-Pierre, thanks for that link. There's quite a few PLus Models bits that I've been wanting to buy for a while for dioramas yet nowhere in the UK seems to stock their stuff, or at least in any quantity. At least now I can get hold of it.

Lots of models are starting to become one of my favorites. They have their own website now if you don't want to buy on Ebay.

Use code Lots2buy for an additional 10% off.

Neither Scale Hobbyist nor Squadron stock any Plus Model products. Sprue Brothers carries a very limited (4 items at the moment) inventory.

Michigan Toy Soldier Co. also has this engine set for $30.99 plus shipping.

Hate to say it, but it's rare that I can't find what I want on e-bay, much of it from overseas vendors, at a lower price and with shipping costs that are at least comparable to traditional vendors.

Finding a good online shop is hard, but worth it to a point.

Here in the lower mainland we are down to only three hobby shops, maybe four if you count the model railroader, and out of them one is my go to guy. I would much rather support my local shop than others as the information I get from them is incredible. But they do not have the selection that is available online.

My online sources are passion-132 on ebay, great service and prices, plus I cannot find Ammo of Mig here at a reasonable price. My next ebay is modelfactory123, great service.

Next BNA models out of Australia, good service and good selection also on ebay as a-modeler. I have used Hobbylink Japan and will use them again.

One general rule I use on almost all internet transactions, paypal, if the shop does not accept paypal I probably will not buy from them, or go and get a pre-paid credit card and use it to ensure I cannot be victimized.

That came in handy when my wife bought me the Takom Tiger II. She didn't want me to see what she bought on ebay so she contacted lotsofmodels directly and got it for the same price.

And ebay got nothing from it.

Reviving an old post, I know. I use Roll Models. Prices plus shipping usually the cheapest I can find. Not the quickest if you want something quick. I have also uses Lucky Models for Asia based manufacturers. Cheap, but again, very slow to get your stuff. These 2 aren't Amazon, but will save you money.
