Ah that's a real shame.

I was about to take some decent pictures and enter this:

But I guess as it has a base (which is very much integral to the whole idea of modelling a destroyed vehicle from a famous action) and cannot be removed (how else could I bury the bogeys in the pebbles) I guess I can't

No figures, so not a dio, and as groundwork goes arguably extremely simple, but no longer eligible under the new rules

I still agree with the no ground work rule.

Well done ground work makes the presentation of the model that much better. The whole premise of this contest is to send in a few pics of a finished model to be judged by your peers on the internet. We can't hold it, focus in on it, look at it from many different angles. One pic, thats all, no more. So with regards to these parameters the presentation of the entry is the most influential factor. If the photo is blury, out of focus, taken too far away etc it will more easily passed over as the quaility of the build cannot be fully assessed. The same goes with groundwork. A model displayed with groundwork will be more pleasing to the eye as a more finished product. And as far as this contest goes it's all about eye candy, which is why entries with the groundwork hold an advantage over entries sitting alone on a table or with a plain background.

I understand why there has been a change of rule, I just don't agree with it in regards to basic groundwork

Competitions such as MAFVA Nationals, IPMS nationals, Euromilitaire, SMC and others don't disallow it

Still I don't make the rules, it just means that, because I don't leave mine unattached to the base anymore I can't enter

Good luck to those that do

Maybe there should be a dio/vignett contest run once or twice a year?

To tell the truth. A simple groundwork (a road, some plain grass etc) should be ok but we have clearly seen that some were abusing this rule. The simple base become first simple base with grass (till here ok) than trees than a portion of a wall brick up to.... what I've posted above. This way there will be no more transgression of rules.

Hi Chris

that entry would be acceptable as the base is plain it is some of the other that have been pushing the boundaries of what is a plain base, ideally I would like to see just the models photographed against a plain back ground but I am not going to penalise entries entered on a single base with little or no ground work

Thanks for the Clarification Keith

I thought you were saying absolutely no base was the new rule. Better take some decent pictures then.

I agree regarding this Churchill. Just compare your groundwork to the pictures posted above - two winning entries last year - those are not simple bases and new rule does not allow to use such pictures for the contest.

For those who fix models to bases - why you cant take a picture before you fix it???

Call me wacko, but would THIS be acceptable? It took about 1 min in a "well known photo editing software".

I think overall the rule is a great idea. In future, wherever possible, I'll take pics before it goes on the base

Roman:
Yes, it's on the vehicle, but it's a live animal, so the big question is still, will it count as a figure, because if so, I have to leave off the driver.

A slight update for 2014

I need to have your name and address in the following format:

Name:
Street Address:
City:
Region: (if any)
Postal Code:
Country:

included with your entries, as we are having more and more entries from around the world, some times prizes are either going missing or being returned, we believe this is down to how we receive the various addresses. So to try and elevate this from now on we would like to see them sent to us in a standard format.

the rules have been updated to show this.

thanks for understanding

Keith Forsyth
