Treadhead - Pre -75? God, you make me feel a lot better, since I started in '75 :-) The Germans had another name for the M-1 when it arrived in Germany, some kind of cuss word I could never pronounce. The 3rd ID tankers destroyed a numbe fo nice German cars before the word got out about the M1s. The Germans had no fear to pull up behind an M60A1, M60A3. Leo I, AMX 30, etc., When the tank driver stomped on the accelerator the Germans just got a face full of diesel exhaust, sort of like following a diesel Mercedes They learned the hard way about turbine exhaust: I saw several cars with the paint blistered off the hood and fenders of several nice German autos. In the US these beasts are rarely off teh reservation, so we don't have that problem.

My M88 (gasoline powered) operators had a patented method of getting rid of tail-gaters they would stomp on the accelarator than let off quickly, a large blue flame would shoot out the exhausts and usually over the hood of the car, no damage, under than possible dirty pants.

Ranger,

Many, many thx for making me almost dirty my pants from Laughing Out Loud!!

BTW, just love the 'blue flame' thing.... :-)

::::::::::all said in a whisper:::::::::::::: Shhhhhh. O.K. I've been thinking about this.....I think we need to all put our heads together and come up with a way to 'handicap' Gunnie! Maybe we can insist he only paint his kits blindfolded, orrrrrr, how about, tying one arm behind his back as soon as he enters his modeling den? Another possibility would be that one of us sneaks into his house while he's at work and switch all his bottles of paint around so the greens are in the red bottles and the blues are in the yellows, and so on. Oh, oh, here's a good one. We switch all of the sprues around in his kit boxes. Whadaya think guys?
Whatever you do.....don't tell Gunnie about this.....O.K.:::::::end of whisper voice:::::::

::::::::regular voice:::::::: Damn that Gunnie is good, isn't he! A credit to modeler's everywhere!
If ever there was a nice guy, Gunnie's it!

Take away his airbrush and only allow him to use those mini Testors bottle paints with the little white brushes. His stuff would still look better than mine

Actually - I thought the Testors white paintbrushes and little square jars of paint was the handicap!

It can't get much worse than that - can it???

This is probably a question meant for the painting forum, but since the last few post have refered to it then I will ask anyway.

I bought a paint starter kit made by Testors that has those "little white brushes and square bottles of paint". I haven't opened yet, so should I return it and get some better paint and brushes? or is this a good starter kit. It has 12 bottles of acrylic paint, 3 brushes, and a tube of cement in a round carousel tray. I paid about $20. Is the paint worth using?

As always any and all responses are welcome'd

Anthony, this is good for a starter set. If it is the set I think, red tray with some military flat paints, it should get you by until you decide to jump back into the hobby. I would suggest picking up some better brushes, fine points and the like. Also the tube glue isn't as good to use as the liquid cement. So, if you decide to spary paint this tank with an OD green paint, the acrylic small bottles will give yuo plenty of colors to detail the lights, machine guns, tools, rubber, etc.

Rob--the M-60/48 spit black smoke for several reasons--dirty air filters, diesel fuel, clogged oil filter, etc.... The M48A3 is one beautiful tank. My favorite will always be the M60A3. I loved that Baby.

Yea M60A3 - The TTS kicked ass I li=oved watching th ecritters at night out in teh German farm fields - got to watch a cat stalk a rabiit in a cabbage field - didn't get to watch teh end of that, as we also spotted the battalion scout platoon, dismounted trying to sneak uo on us. A fire mssion of "Battery six" fo arty took care of them

Bob,

I've gunned on both the M60A3 and the M1A1, and while I will agree that the TTS had a very good site picture and was an overall good thermal site, I would have to say the TIS on the M1/M1A1 had a better thermal gathering capabilitie. I may get some different opinions and thats okay. I will say though that I really enjoyed my time on the M60A3 and I was glad I got to experience it before I got out.

Now if I can just get that chattering noise from the TIS out of my head........

Welcome aboard! Although I hate to twist young, impressionable minds, one of the newer Tamiya Panzers/Panther/Tiger/King Tiger also make a relitvely easy build. This from a guy who cut his tank building teeth on the old Tamiya Pzkpfw II.
Sorry fellow Allied builders...
