Introduction

As part of their development of quite an extensive range of items connected with the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) Resicast have released a set of Vickers MMGs for pintle mounts. Quite a while back I reviewed their .303 Vickers Medium Machine Gun set No 35.2222, link below:

MMG Set Live links

This new set, set No 35.2361, is for vehicle mounted guns, designed with the 30cwt Tamiya Truck in mind but useable on probably most trucks if the setting is appropriate. It is a smaller set than the ground mounted guns mentioned in the original review.

The set

The set comes packed in the standard Resicast format for small items being double zip bagged with a card insert showing a colour picture of the built guns, product and manufacturers details. The kit is moulded in a light cream coloured resin.

The set contains two of each type of guns, the early Mk I (1914 version) and the later style Mk I (1944 version) where the canvas jacket and flash suppressor were added. The four guns come with 2 x handles that need to be attached and these are quite delicate, but you get some spares so no panic there.

To mount the guns you get 4 x three piece telescopic pintles. The lower two parts are moulded together with just the upper portion to add. The pintle top is drilled as a guide to mating the 3rd section.

Each gun comes with an open tin of ammo in a cradle showing an ammo belt inside, and there are 6 x closed tins and 2 x open tins in the set for further use as necessary. The end of each barrel is pre-drilled, although you may wish to deepen these for sharper definition. The barrels represent the .303inch version of the Vickers Machine Gun and these are therefore designated Medium Machine Guns. The remaining detail on the guns is very good and seems accurate from all the reference pictures I’ve looked at.

Normal safety precautions apply when working with resin.

Conclusion

Resicast makes an excellent .303 Vickers Medium Machine gun. This new offering should be very handy for those modeling the LRDG Chevrolet or who only need a truck mounted MMG without all the other associated boxes and fittings.

This is another really useful offering for those who don’t need the full set of guns and associated bits. I think it is to Resicast's credit that many of the smaller items offered in their LRDG conversion set have been made available for modelers who don’t need the full set.

For those who are interested in this weapon I would recommend a visit to vickersmachinegun.org, where you will find all manner of useful information about the weapon and data about those who used it.

About Alan McNeilly (AlanL)
FROM: ENGLAND - EAST ANGLIA, UNITED KINGDOM

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...
