by: Todd Michalak [ TRM5150 ]

introduction

“This publication offers for the very first time a comprehensive overview on the various British Trucks in Wehrmacht Service, covering well-know models and makes such as the Bedford and the Morris-Commercial GS trucks in the 8cwt to 3-ton range, the heavy Scammell Pioneers and AEC Matadors, specialized vehicles such as cranes and field cars as well as many rarer makes, rarities and oddities. A special chapter also grants an overview on the Canadian-built vehicles of the British Army that served with the Afrika Korps”
(from the back cover)

contents

This book is 304 pages packed full with 547 photographs of which the publisher’s website states 425 are unpublished before this publication.
- Operation Dynamo
- Bedford
- Morris-Commercial
- Standardized 6x4 3-Tonners
- Scammell Pioneer
- AEC Matador
- Austin
- Cranes
- Field Cars
- Rarities and Oddities
- Canadian Vehicles
This book, front to back, is loaded with picture after picture accompanied by factual information regarding the vehicles outlined within. Some of the more notable inclusions for me in the book are the many photos of wrecks over 42 pages from the evacuation of Dunkirk, the widely used 6x4 Three -Tonners and of course the 23 pages of Canadian-built vehicles of the Afrika Korps.
SUMMARY
Highs: Photo packed, well written and factual publication
Lows: Nothing to add
Verdict: Almost every photograph is crystal clear with supporting captions adding a tremendous amount of detailed, well written information about these vehicles. In the hands of a military modeler or researcher, this book is a definite must have!

I am building what I like, when I like and how I like it; having fun doing it. I have been building and finishing models on and off my whole life but the past ten years things really exploded. Just about anything goes when it comes to hitting the bench, but wrecked armor, rusted hulks, ships or ...

I agree this book is a must have. I've bought it although it's not my primary subject and never regretted it. It's a book so great you get back to it often, read it once then opened it many times to browse, those photos are so great! Best book purchase of the year for me so far. Cheers, Christophe

Hi Christophe, Does the book by some miracle have any pictures of a Bedford QL gun portee, with a flak gun mounted on it?? As I am wanting to model one with a 3.7mm on it. Cheers Mike

You mean 3.7cm? Or 37mm? No Bedford QL in the book, just checked. Have you seen pics of such a truck with a 3.7cm on it? Most trucks with Flak (except really heavy ones) seem to have 2cm guns only... Cheers, Christophe

Sorry the 37mm, no I have never seen any photos of one I just thought that if the Afrika Corp had captured any, which I consider was very possible that, A) they would have been to small to mount a pak 7.5on & use in a similar way. B) Mounting a 20mm would have been a waste of such a strong truck so why not just mount a bigger 37mm
