introduction

I was recently in Dublin where I had the great pleasure to meet Value Gear's founder and creator, Steve Munsell. His whole proposition around the company is to create really useful stowage gear for almost all kinds of kits. The advantage of VG is clear to anyone who like me feels AFVs need stuff piled up on them: really well-cast resin accessories at prices that make sense.

what you get

Inside a Ziploc baggie with a header card you get:

16 pieces of gray resin

the review

Unlike most resin sets that are targeted to a specific vehicle, VG harkens back to the Verlinden concept of generic stowage. The variety of objects in VG's sets is quite impressive, and they can serve in just about any army and any time period. I have used them on Allied and German vehicles, and the plastic can be softened in boiling water to allow shaping to particular surfaces.

The straps on this set are a bit bulky, but a little sanding should bring them down to the scale that even the most-finicky modeler will approve. The resin is quite "clean" with no mold release used, so there's no need to soak the pieces in any solvent like with other resin accessories.

Painting is easy, with the only decision whether you're using a camouflage color for tents, a solid one for blankets, or a canvas color for tarps.

NOTE: The Universal Carrier build in the photos to the right has a mix of Resicast stowage particular to the UC and VG tents and tarps piled at the top of the stack in the rear.

conclusion

For the price, I can't recommend these highly enough. Pick up several sets and you'll have enough gear for an entire motor pool.
