IDF M151A1 SHMIRA

introduction

Well you have all been waiting with bated breath for the release of this kit. I know I have anyways. What I had expected to find in the box, and what I actually found were two different kettle of gefällt fisch! The new kit, has nothing to do with previous offering, other than being related via association.

kit contents

The new kit is completely re-engineered, and contains a host of options, refinements and accessories, not found in the previous versions. Typical Idf modifications to the basic design have been incorporated into the model. The kit is cast in the classically yummy green plastic, spread over four sprues, with the body as a separate component. There is one clear sprue, for the clear parts (surprise!), and the tyres are moulded in vinyl rubber, oops! There is a good sheet of decals for either a vehicle in 1982, or another from 1984.

Academy have done their research, and the vehicle will build into an excellent replica straight from the box……BUT, you knew that was coming didn’t you! There are ways to improve upon the basic kit, and enhance certain details. First off, I’ve started to produce a new set of resin replacement tyres, hate that rubber. There are the ammo storage bins located on the passengers side, a very common feature, which are missing. A portable radio is often mounted on the passenger side wing, and ammo is often carried on top of the bonnet/hood.

As I said earlier, Academy have done a super job, but there are theses little perks that can be added with out too much difficulty. Finally, another common feature often seen is a folded stretcher unit strapped, once again, on the passenger side. (You’re starting to see why it’s unpopular to be a passenger!!) The location of the pintle mount can also be relocated into one of the rear corners, a common field modification.

in conclusion

One of the things that really caught my attention, was the overall “finesse” on the pieces. This should build into a beautifully delicate replica of the real thing. Highly recommended for all IDF fans.
