British Soldier with PIAT Ammo

Introduction

Resicast continue to add to their impressive range of British Infantry with the release of this latest figure; Soldier with PIAT Ammo.

The Figure

The figure comes packed in the standard double zip bag with a paper insert, typical of all Resicast figures. On the front of the insert is a good colour picture to aid in painting, along with the product information and the makers contact address and logo.

The figure comes in 8 parts and depicts a walking soldier in full battle order with rifle and carrying a PIAT Ammo case. Cast in a light grey resin I could see no damage or air bubbles in my example.
The body is cast as a whole, dressed in standard 37/40 Battle Dress with the pleated pockets and wearing boots and anklets. It has a full set of 37 pattern equipment, ammo pouches, water bottle, digging tool, gas mask container and backpack. Across the chest is a bandolier showing the correct 5 pouches for the extra 100 rounds carried in battle order. This is a very detailed body, the equipment looks spot on and even the ends of the pack straps are showing at the shoulders. A little bit of a clean up will be required on the front side of the gas mask container.

The arms/hands are depicted hanging at the sides. The hands need to be attached as the left hand is moulded to the PIAT Ammo case and the right hand to the No 4 rifle, which is complete with the short stabbing bayonet. Small holes are cast in the arms to allow for a good fit of the hands and equipment. The No 4 rifle looks very accurate, but care should be taken when working with this part to ensure you don’t break off the short stabbing bayonet. The PIAT Ammo case in the left hand is well cast and accurate from the pictures I’ve seen.

The head comes with a MK II helmet with netting and camouflage, and has a field dressing on the front. The face is very well cast showing a rather stern looking young man and is designed to be looking slightly to the right.

To complete the figure is a bayonet scabbard and a good old British mug that will need to be added to the webbing.

Conclusion

Another very useful figure from Resicast. I may be wrong but I think this is the first one I have seen in full battle order who is also carrying the later style gas mask bag, which makes him very appropriate for the early NWE campaign.

The detail is excellent; casting is crisp and clear with only a slight amount of flash needing removal from the front side of the gas mask. The figure should paint up very well and be useable to both figure painters and diorama builders.
SUMMARY
Highs: Excellent detail, fully equipped and with a good natural pose. A very useable figure to add to any scene in NWE.
Lows: I’m not a big fan of hands moulded onto equipment, but there may be a casting reason for that.
Verdict: Highly Recommended.

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...

Hey Al, Thanks for the interesting review !! I like the looks of this figure !!! You see lots of figures with SMLE's and Brens but very few carrying something like the PIAT or it's ammo. Does Resicast plan to do a companion with a PIAT slung over the shoulder or in hand ??? Cheers jjumbo
