Panther Barrel
7.5cm KwK 42 L/70 Panther – PzKpfw V

by: Darren Baker [ CMOT ]

Introduction

The German Panther D, A, and G of World War II was arguably one of the best tanks to go into production during the dark days of that conflict, its combination of fire power, protection, and speed made it a deadly foe. The Panther was Germany's answer to the T34, which outclassed the Panzer III and IV that were in use by German forces. The Panther was supposed to replace the Panzer III and IV, however production never had a chance to match that requirement.

The product is supplied in a clear zip lock bag with the item number, description, and the suppliers details on white labels attached to the bag. Inside there is another zip lock bag containing the additional pieces for the barrel. In order to prevent damage to the product, the supplier ships orders in jiffy bags. The samples sent to me all arrived in excellent condition.

Contents:
•1 turned aluminium barrel
•A 4 piece muzzle in brass
•1 PE fret

Review

The aluminium barrel that comes with this product is nicely turned with rifling being well replicated, and it appears accurate along its entire length. The end of the barrel is threaded to accept the muzzle, and the muzzle is a very good fit to this threaded end. The photo-etch fret that comes with this product consists of five pieces, all of which attach to, or inside, the muzzle. The three rings going inside the muzzle help to create a very realistic appearance, the two much smaller pieces attach to the base of the muzzle on the exterior.

The four turned parts of the muzzle are very well replicated, and fit together well. They consist of the front and rear of the muzzle in two pieces, inside of which, one of the two turned brass rings belongs. The remaining brass ring is screwed onto the barrel before the addition of the muzzle. When complete this builds up to be a very good replica of the barrel, and as can be seen by the pictures will make a very nice addition to your build for a reasonable price.

Conclusion

A very nice after market barrel to add to your Panther build. It has good value for the money both in cost of the product, and current postage costs to get it delivered. It is a very well made product with no fit issues that I came across, some of the assembly is very fiddly due to the size of the parts. It does have one drawback: there are no instructions of any kind supplied with the product which can make assembly of this product difficult, that however is the only negative in what is a very good product.

I have been asked to make clear that sales within Europe incur a 20% VAT charge; this will make this product about EUR8.86, if purchased in Europe.
SUMMARY
Highs: Well made, accurate, and a great price.
Lows: No instructions of any kind.
Verdict: You could do a lot worse than splashing out on this product to upgrade your Panther model.

Wow, a threaded muzzle brake, not only does that make for one hell of a detailed barrel to go on a Panther, it also opens extra possibilities for a maintenance diorama. Thanks for the review Darren, and the clear close up shots of the thread and rifling.

It is a very good product Henk, if only it came with instructions it would rate highly in every aspect.

Hi Darren would you rate this ally barrel as good as ABER's?

Easily its equal and possibly better if the threaded end section is taken into account, and helpful to the scene you wish to create.
