SEIL is well known for the amazing 90mm releases of Samurai figures, but here we see another brilliant example of the company’s efforts to produce really good figures for all eras
As I have told before Seil is probably the company with the best packing in miniature world. So a big black sturdy hard carton box, with 2 thick dark grey sheets of protective foam hold all 24 white metal pieces of the figure. Outside of this a dark glossy paper sleeve with 3 big pictures of the painted boxart, makes the final wrapping. Whenever you open a Seil Model figure kit you are amazed by the shiny metal surface of all pieces . The quality of the metal parts is really in top standards, with smooth surface, and no cleaning need , than a pet with the fine steel wool to polish even more the figure. No moldlines here.
As this is a heavy figure of big size , I would definitely use strong metal pins to insert in both hands and feet and also between Torso and head to insure that there will be no problem after some time of handling. The sculptor has provided in all places of parts small spherical pins but I would prefer long ones ! Usealso only 2part epoxy glue to assembly the figure cause with CA glue you will not avoid parts detachment after short or longer time .
There is no paper sheet included with printed photographs are there are 3 of them on the package and more on the internet site of the company . Despite all this I think that Seil will have to do this in future releases to help people that might don’t have easy access to internet.
Left arm -hand
Right hand with rifle
3 pieces for feet
Back pack of equipment
Sword in Scabbard
9 smaller pieces of decoatives and uniform’sparts
Quality and Detail
The pose is pretty nice and fully active as it shows the Grenadier having the rifle with the blade mounted on and about to hit the enemy .The rifle rests on warriors arm and is a total different pose than we usually see Napoleonic figures and especially the 90 mm.
Sculpting level is high , and clean . All items are clearly defined from the others and the lines of the figure are nice. Folds and drapery where it exists is fine and smooth and the rest of the equipment and detailed pieces are really nice the armor detail is simply splendid. Face characteristics are looking well sculpted and with appropriate painting will show nice .
This is not a very easy figure to paint as it is 90 mm and will not forgive any mistake. It may needs only few colors and not very complicated details to paint , but there is a lot of white color to paint which usually proves pretty hardforpainters torender properly .
Good thing is that sculpting is so clean and defined that will help u in all points of our effort.
I would definitely do something more for a base than the company offers adding some grass and dirt and maybe some other element like a canonball some barrel or fence part just to add some variety .
Conclusion – Final Verdict
Seil never stops to amaze us with super good quality of material ,and interesting themes from skilled sculptors. This Napoleonic figure is good for starting at the era , if we talk for 90mm, since its not very complexed. Assembly will go nice and easy so don’t hesitate
Special Thanks to Seil Model for the review sample
