introduction

A sandbag is a sack made of burlap, polypropylene or other materials that is filled with sand or soil and used for such purposes as flood control, military fortification, shielding glass windows in war zones and ballast. Advantages are that burlap and sand are inexpensive, and that the bags can be brought in empty and filled with local sand or soil.

BRAVO-6 released another unique kit with static posed figures for Vietnam dioramas especially trench scenes. B6-35065 Dig Boy,Dig - Nam includes two U.S. GI figures preparing sandbags.
packing

The kit comes in standard light brown cardbard box labeled with assembled and painted figures photo. Backside shows a diagram for photoetched e-tool assembly and a photo of Nixon advicing how to make it. Three ziplock bags come inside the box for body parts, small parts and PE parts.
parts

Figure parts are cast in grey resin and represented with the casting blocks. Resin quality is good, details are clean and sharp. No air bubbles or casting mistakes on the figures. A short cleanwork will be needed for some seamlines on Figure A’s inside left leg and right side of his waist and Figure B’s back and outside of arms.

FIGURE A
Posed leaning forward to dig ground to fill the sandbag, it comes in 3 parts as body and two arms. Facial details and hair are well defined, resin support under the chin should be removed. His chest is sculpted bare with nice muscular details. He wears 2nd pattern Jungle trousers with M1956 Pistol belt and trotters are inserted inside Vibram boots. Side cargo pockets, slit rear pockets and cloth folds are well represented.
  • Arms : Posed to hold the e-tool with two hands.
  • M51 folding shovel/e-tool : Handle of e-tool is given as a resin part. Kit includes 3 handles but extra attention will be needed for this tiny part as top parts of 2 handles were broken on the sample, but could be fixed easily before taking photos.
  • PE parts for e-tool : They should be assembled as described on the box.

    FIGURE B
Sitting and holding a sandbag between his legs, it comes in 4 parts as body, head and two arms. He wears OD T-shirt and jungle trousers with trotters inserted inside jungle boots. Cloth folds are well defined. Resin supports on the back of knees should be removed.
  • Head : Scuplted in nice facial details, top of the head is carved for the fit of the headgear.
  • Headgear : Two alternatives is given as a Boonie hat or outfolded sandbag.
  • Open sandbag : It will be assembled to the hands of figure.
  • Sandbag block : A block of 3 sandbags is given as a seat for sitting figure and top of the block is shaped for the figure’s butt.
  • 1 quart plastic canteen without cover : It can be displayed next to the figure.
  • Stencil for PE parts
    conclusion

Another nice posed figure kit for static Vietnam scenes. Nice sculpt and clean cast but note that attention and extra work will be needed for the e-tools and placing it to the figure’s hand.
