DML have announced the impending release of yet another version of the King Tiger.
This time the kit is of a "last production" King Tiger fitted with transport tracks.

There are a few pics around showing knocked out KTs wearing transport tracks, and I suppose, given the supply situation in Germany towards the end of the war, transport tracks are better than no tracks at all, albeit not as wide as the standard ones.

However, I can just hear regular readers of these pages saying "not another German kit!", and they're entitled to their opinions, but that said, DML undoubtedly know what will sell, and I have no doubt that this kit will not last long on the shelves.

Tracks appear to be "Magic Tracks" which, given the number of kits being released of late with DS vinyl tracks, I found a bit surprising. I also suspect it will be a "Smart Kit" as the amount of brass seems to be minimal.

The KT that this kit is most likely based on is no more than 11/2 - 2 yrs old. Therefore it's still a top of the line kit and the best KT model available...until the next generation of KT models!

nobody knows what the tracks will look like yet...your guess is as good as ours ..

If they are transport tracks they won't be the old sprue mounted links as they were for the wider combat tracks...

Was a Jagdtiger ever produced by Dragon with narrow transport tracks and if they are these would that make them sprue mounted or not ?

Was a Jagdtiger ever produced by Dragon with narrow transport tracks and if they are these would that make them sprue mounted or not ? [/quote] DML prodcuced a jagdtiger in the 90's (I own two) that only came with sprue mounted transport tracks. They are a bit of a chore as they are multi-piece tracks, you have to glue the "attaching" bar whatever the heck it's called as well as each indy track. It was one of the few DML kits that had a photo of the finished kit rather than box art. Not a bad kit for it's day but I am not too sure how accurate it was, I am more familiar with panzer III/IV, Stugs, Tiger I, etc. HTH. PS DML also sold the transport tracks seperately when they used to sell tracks kits.

If the tracks are DS then I'll pass on the kit. If the tracks are Magic Tracks then I will buy one from the LHS. Put both in the box and I'll buy the kit from the LHS.

Looks like the tracks mystery is solved -they are a slightly retooled version of the nineties era Jagdtiger transpo tracks....the bridge link and connecting bars are new, but the main link is the original tooling. Apparently there are some problems with the instructions too (not surprisingly)...it comes with extra parts for slight variations, apparently, which also are not mentioned in the instructions....

In the market for a first King Tiger kit, looks like I'd better buy another kit with Magic Tracks? Went over the kit instruction scans at another site and the track assembly step wasn't explained very well.
