Dragon Models is issuing a set of 1/35 Navy SEAL figures in commemoration of Operation Geronimo. The set includes a variety of uniforms and kit, including frogmen.
The US Navy SEALs (“SEAL” stands for Sea, Air and Land) have long been a famed special operations formation. As their name suggests, they are capable of operating at sea, in the air and on land conducting a variety of missions. One of their most famous operations to date occurred on May 2, 2011, when SEAL Team 6 performed a covert penetration by helicopter in Pakistan. The target was none other than the USA’s most wanted fugitive – Osama bin Laden, the terrorist mastermind behind the deadly 9-11 attacks in the USA. The 40-man team was inserted into Abbottabad by helicopter, and it then proceeded to assault bin Laden’s fortified compound.

Dragon has launched a 1/35 scale figure set commemorating the recent exploits of SEAL Team 6. The SEAL team members are wearing a range of apparel and uniforms. The set even includes frogmen, showing SEALs in their natural environment. The eight sharply molded figures included in the set also wield a range of different weapons. Together, this set offers modelers a better understanding of the uniforms, equipment and weapons of this top-flight US Navy fighting force. Their motto is “The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday”, but Dragon has certainly made it easier for modelers to get closer to these elite American soldiers!

Cheers Dragon, im sure everyone will be happy to commemorate SEAL Team 6's exploits by breathing deep sighs of disapointment at the re-issue of an obscure collection of figures. Lame with a capital M Bring on some fresh stuff lads.. Modern, ISAF, something that isnt associated with WW2 Germany, it WOULD sell if they pulled their fingers out and gave it a try.

From DragonUSA website . Now, in a slight nod of fairness to DML, at least they didn't make an attempt to copyright the name 'SEAL Team 6' unluke the Disney corporation. Why they tried to do it is beyond me - perhaps an Osama Bin Laden Magic Kingdom in their parks or perhaps just a nod to part of Kubrick's soundtrack in Full Metal Jacket? Whatever, it's tacky as hell - from both sets of 'Imagineers'

I'm pretty baffled as to what the issue is with these figures tbh? Tasteless? Erm, surely no worse than the countless Nazi storm troopers and armored killing machines Dragon already produce. Inaccurate? Who gives a damn, this boxing clearly isnt designed the mature modeler with accuracy in mind. An attempt to make a quick buck? Erm, yes! Dragon are a company whose primary aim is to turnover a profit and make money are they not. I really dont understand all the winging moaning about these figures. No one is forcing you to buy them and frankly if it means some kid is going to pick them up in a hobbystore cos they look cool and he heard about the SEAL's on TV, and then gets hooked on modelling that can only be a good thing. I think some of us on this site (am im guilty of it in the past) get too hung up on thinking that modelling companies are there to produce something appealing to every little niche interest we all have. Dragon probably have a shed load of these old molds laying around so why the hell would they not box them and churn them out to make money, it makes perfect business sense.

O.K. fact #1. Dragon is a buisness and the buisness end is to make a profit. #2, they reissued old figures in the spirit of the operation, to make money. #3, It would take more time and money to come up with new figures of modern seals with new era weapons. #4 By the time that was accomplished it would have been some time well past and the novelty would have worn off. #5, It made sence buisness wise. #6, Us modelers who have the old sets don't need to purchase them. #7, new modelers might not have them and they are not bad figures by any means. We all started out with a kit from somewhere and sometime and really, did it matter that it was or was not accurate, we had fun. It just was a dissapointment for us modelers that a new set didn't hit the market right away, but time may come when they do release a set for this opperation. If they do and they are good, I'll P/U my standard two sets. Everything is not a winner all the time and as far as some of us are concerned, they missed this one. Better luck next time. And I don't think it makes them tacky or loosers either. If they don't make money, they don't stay in buisness, and then where would we be?

Bob/Rob. You both make perfect sense, from a business standpoint why wouldn't dragon re-issue these, possibly earn them a few bob, and yep your also right when you say it might catch some lads eye and get him hooked on modelling which is a fantastic thing. But i know that as for myself, i'm not a young boy picking up his first kit, nor am i a Third Reich enthusiast... in their defence, they've put out a few allied figure sets here and there recently, but are as always completely outnumbered by the goose steppers... What im getting at is im just over DML pumping out pish kits. I know they wont change that just because i'd love to see some kits that would never be worth there while making, but i still reserve the right to have a good old whinge.

Bob, Rob, sorry, I tought that our posts was what you call in your country freedom of speech, expressing different point of view. What do you expect, that we say "hell yeah, dragon released a very nice set that eveyone of us found fantastic". As Dave mentioned, we are not kids. Armorama is not a network for kids. So don't be surprised if we don't like this kit. K.

I dont mind conflicting view points, I wasnt having a go at that. Simply the fact that some people dont seem to understand the point of this release, I was merely pointing out that is some logic behind this release. I think its a crap release as well, and generally find all of DML's releases lame and uninteresting. But from a business point of view, as i stated, it makes sense.

Verlinden releases a SEAL Team kit made of figure parts from their existing figure kits. While not totally accurate to the SEALs, I suppose this kit will be helpful to someone somewhere... LINK
