Dragon is preparing a 1/72 German Panther Ausf. A late model. It comes with several new parts and will be available in November.
While it’s the impressive Tiger tank that usually attracts the most awe, it was the Sd.Kfz.171 Panther that in the long run was a more important tank to Germany during WWII. This 45-tonne medium tank represented a good balance of well-sloped armour protection, lethal firepower and able cross-country mobility, the design being inspired by the highly successful Russian T-34. The second main production variant of the Panther – the Ausf.A – appeared in August 1943, and its manufacture continued up till mid-1944 before being superseded by the ultimate Ausf.G. Some 2,192 Ausf.A Panthers were produced.

Now comes the Late-Production to the Dragon 1/72 Panther family. This new tank features many new parts: the turret, associated mantlet and commander cupola are all new.
It also includes the characteristic ball mount hull machine gun mount in the glacis plate. The exhaust pipes are also new.
The upper hull is made as a single piece thanks to the slide molds used. The lower hull tub has been formed the same way, thus ensuring a stable foundation for the rest of the build. All the appropriate characteristics of this Ausf.A Late-Production variant are present, and DS tracks are provided too.

I hope Dragon takes the time to include Zimmerit, otherwise it will just be another dropped ball.

Actually Zimmerit or no this would fill a gap in 1/72 armor. There is no great out of the box Panther A. The Dragon Panther G was really nice and head and shoulders over the Revell offering

I think at one point the Ausf G was released with etched metal grilles for the engine deck, but that was dropped, and to my knowledge has since been absent on all their small scale Panthers, as I am sure it will be absent from this kit. Which is disappointing.

Dragon did release an early Panther A with dustbin cupola, and hull MG slot. Although the box art depicted Panther A with Zimmerit, the kit did not. I hope this is not the case this time.
