flak looks great, bummer on those wheels

The splinter shields are way too thick in the provided built pics, and those wheels.... Blah. Why not provide the shields in PE or even styrene 0.01 sheet - MUCH closer to real appearance? And why provide standard Sd.An 52 wheels when the photos of these things show narrow stamped dishpan-rims with narrow tires much more similar to those found on the hand-pulled infanterie-kart? Were those things fixed up, I'd buy one (and replace the barrel with a metal item with a good flash-hider). Otherwise.... NO.

Hello Bob, Thanks for your Feedback on the kit. Regarding the shield, I can tell you, that the material is much thinner as it appears on the picture and almost comparable with PE. The inclusion of PE is really a nice idea, but would also increase costs of the kit and when looking for Flak weapons offered by the big companies there are not so many offered with PE shields. Regarding the Barrel I have been informed, that the new kits already include metal Barrels. Finally the wheels. The use of the Infanteriekarren wheels might be a very good idea (thank you very much for sharing your thoughts). When comparing the inner wheel section or rims of the kit with pictures of the original (I have the instruction manual)they seem to be quite ok, but the wheels are really too wide.

Gert; Thanks for checking in on my comment! I am actually very interested in this project - the GebirgsFlaK 38 "calls me" - and I am pretty pleased to see a kit come along. And of course, like almost all modelers, I dream of "perfection"! That said, IF those wheels are fixed and the shields are indeed very thin, I'll be looking into getting one! You probably are aware that Dragon included PE shields in its 2c FlaK 38 kit, in some of the their vehicle - w/ mounted '38 kits, and in their 3cm Jaboschreck kit (which uses the FlaK 38 shields and mounts). And there are some AM PE shield kits out. Personally, I scratch shields from 0.01 inch styrene. In either case, the thickness does get closer to the appropriate scale thickness. (the shields were about 1/3 inch or maybe 6-7mm thick - so a 1/35 scale shield should be about 0.0086 inch thick, or about 0.24mm thick). Cheers! Bob

Hello Bob, Meanwhile I have checked the suitability of the wheels from the Infanteriekarren and - they are perfect! Thanks again for that hint. I have already contacted Customscale and they will replace the wheels. I am addicted to German Flak and therefore know the Dragon kits which are the only ones offered with PE. As mentioned it was really an idea to include PE shield with the Gebirgsflak, but finally not realized due to cost reasons. Best wishes. Gert
