Replikant Technologies is one of the companies constantly raising the bar of realism in scale modeling. This time the company announces the ultimate MG42 model, scanned from the real weapon and 3D printed in 1/35 scale.
350301 - MG42

The model was made in collaboration with SC&3D and is supplied as 3D printed part, with the barrel completely free of the protective housing... something impossible to produce as a one piece resin cast. The 3D printinter used is a top-notch machine with 16 micron layers.

The weapon will be available in 1/16 scale as well.

I'm interested no matter the price. It's a very complex piece of equipment (swap-able barrels inside a sheet metal cooling jacket). I once knew a WW2 reenactor who had an original, so I've had the chance to handle one up close & personal. This could be a major improvement even over resin.

Almost $10.70 CAN for a single gun? Think I'll pass until the $ has parity. (That'll be the day!)

"top notch" will be obsolete in 5 years... ;-)

You guys did notice where it said, "Image shown is primed and sanded"? Like a CAD designer on another site, selling a 3-D printed ship model kit. His example was very attractive, but he eventually admitted the parts have to be sanded to get rid of the printing lines. Not much fun!

Due to the white translucent resin, the parts would photograph better with primer. I can say from the milk crates and plastic lawn chairs that I have from them, the quality is much better than the Shapeways brand best 3D print. Sanding would probably amount to a brushing with the glass fiber polish pen.
