135

The only functional Tiger 1 in the World today is Tiger 131. Tiger 131 was captured in Tunisia after its turret ring was jammed by fire from three Churchill tanks. The crew of the Tiger rather than destroying it did a runner leaving this iconic tank as a very well-known prize today that still shows the damage inflicted in North Africa. David Byrden is given credit for this release and so I am very hopeful of a great model.
Dragon is extremely excited to announce the arrival of a 1/35 scale plastic kit of one of the most famous tanks in the world – a Tiger I sporting the number ‘131’. The original ‘131’, housed at the Tank Museum in Bovington, UK, is the only working Tiger I in the world. The tank with chassis number 250122 was shipped by Germany to North Africa in March/April 1943, where it served with the 3rd Platoon, 1st Company of the 504th Schwere Heeres Panzer Abteilung (s.Pz.Abt.504). On 21 April 1943 it was captured in Tunisia after being knocked out during the Battle of Longstop Hill. ‘131’ was hit three times by the 6-pounder guns of Churchill tanks from the 48th Royal Tank Regiment. The Tiger was taken back to England for evaluation purposes. Transferred to the Tank Museum in 1951, restoration commenced in 1990 and by 2012 the painstaking work was complete. ‘131’ gained further fame when it was used in the sensational movie Fury that released in 2014.

This Dragon kit possesses amazing attention to detail, not least because the supervisor of the project is none other than David Byrden. Since he gave advice on the restoration of the real Tiger I at Bovington, modelers can be assured of extreme accuracy in this faithful 1/35 scale rendering of the original. The kit features a number of new parts such as the upper hull and the Feifel air filters. Also brand new are the brackets for S-mine launchers (Minenabwurfvorrichtung) on the rear of the hull. On this kit every bolt and screw was checked and fine-tuned to match those on the original ‘131’, giving modelers the opportunity to precisely and conveniently build one of the best-known tanks in the world!

Dragon Tigers are not overly complex, they go together fairly easily into a nice build.Don't sweat it,their are plenty of blogs out there to help you out.

P.S. if you complain about dragon making too many tigers just dont buy them... $$$ is how you vote in capitalism and buisiness.

Looks interesting. I don't get the complainers...Dragon Tigers are usually short runs or chronically out of stock - one would be hard pressed to find one at a local LHS. If you don't like Tigers move onto another thread about Cromwells or 15 CWT's. I for one welcome all releases as it means our hobby is still viable! And for the record my last eight kits purchased were all allied! LOL.

I very welcome the new Tigers by Dragon. I have the new Wittmann early type and it's very good. Almost 80€, but most of the parts are reworked. New turret, new upper hull etc. There was one unused loader's side hatch on a sprue with very good and realistic zimmerit application on it, best Dragon did on a Tiger so far. So maybe we will see a new zimmerit-ed Tiger

I believe that part is left over from kit #6797. David

Dumb question: will this kit build ONLY 131 or can we build other early Tigers from it?
JUN 15, 2015 - 08:55 PM
I think the box art showed two other marking options also. One whitewash and one with vertical stripes.

The kit has a few parts that you could use to build slightly earlier or later Tigers; e.g. the 5-part gun cleaning rod, and the engine hatch with a moved hook. But it was not intended to be a "generic early Tiger" kit, and so it doesn't have the standard thick mantlet. We did find several Tigers with the same flat mantlet and configuration as "131". Two of them are covered.
