A few days ago, I ran a story on Dragon Models' release schedule for October 2006. Amongst these new releases, I mentioned (briefly) the Nashorn. Now we're able to present in some depth, details and images of a long-awaited kit....
DRA 6314 - Sd.Kfz.164 Nashorn ~ (Premium Edition) 1/35th scale

Is DML's latest in their Premium Edition series. This recent initiative (for those who have been living on top of a mountain) has basically meant that older kits, have been updated to modern standard with re-moulding, additional PE and such extras as Aluminium barrels and new tracks. In this case, the Nashorn is a vehicle which requires a modern 'treatment' due to the amount of interior detail in the open-topped fighting compartment.

The updates are, according to DML's website are as follows:

Tracks:

- Newly tooled Magic Tracks

Fighting Compartment:

- New fighting compartment gun mounts w/ photo-etched detail
- New clear parts and photo-etched brackets for fighting compartment periscopes
- Camouflage loops with updated weld detail
- Photo-etched scissors periscope brackets
- Photo-etched ammo case details and covers
- Photo-etched front fighting compartment rack parts
- Photo-etched Radio Rack parts

Gun:

- Updated muzzle brake
- Bonus metal barrel

Upper/Lower Hull:

- Photo-etched side exhaust grills in detail
- Glacis w/ improved weld lines
- Newly designed travel lock with photo-etched parts
- Photo-etched jack bracket
- New slide-molded exhaust NEW
- Photo-etched rear brackets
- Updated road wheels and return rollers w/ enhanced detail

Other Features:

- New Cartograf decal with markings for eight vehicles in a variety of schemes

I'm doomed...doomed I tell you! I have two of their older 6166 kits in the stash and this has definitely made them obsolete.

Nice indeed, and those tracks will be a welcome addition. I too have the 'old' kit, and although not quite 'obsolete' it might look a bit rough around the edges if parked next to the new Premium Edition... A variety of scheme's... I wonder how many are "unidentified unit -Eastern Front" ... this time :-) Cheers Henk

Hola Jim The artwork looks possibly Normandie-ish... Were they used there? Cheers Brad

The question I posted over on ML still stands. Will they correct the ammo lockers so that there are 2 shells per shelf? The 6166 kit has only one row of ammo per shelf and should have 2 sheel per shelf. Anyone in contact w Dragon and can ask? Mike

DML is amazing. They can crank out more kits than most of us can afford I too already have the odler verion of this kit and will probably not buy this one. But I do hope that they give the premium treatment to the Maus, E100 and Panther 2. A paper panzer fan can only hope ( and there is one more secret item in the catalogue not reveiled yet , no.6315)
